“I’m honored to be able to present Siegers Seed Company with this milestone award,” said Mike Gumina (left), ASTA chairman, during the introductory remarks to the general session. “This truly is an achievement and on behalf of the association, thank you for your commitment. Congratulations.”
Siegers Seed Company specializes in fresh market vegetable varieties. Headquartered out of Southwest Michigan, the company has satellite offices in central Florida and Canada.
The company was originally founded as N. Sluis & Sons in Chicago, Ill., during 1912 by Nanne Sluis. The Dutch immigrant was the great-grandfather of Rick Siegers (photo, right) who is the current owner and president. In 1957, the company was divided between Siegers’ uncle and father who moved the company to Michigan and later bought out his uncle’s share.
Siegers took the company reigns in 1973, and has continued the family tradition of hard work, excellent customer service, high standards and staying on top of new technologies and new and improved varieties.
