Agrisoma advances Brassica carinata trials across North America - Field tours in Western Canada to showcase new energy feedstock crop

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
July 28, 2011

Agrisoma Biosciences Inc. is well into its most extensive testing season to date, with 29 trial sites of its industrial oilseed crop Brassica carinata established across North America. With commercialization of elite Carinata lines anticipated for Western Canada in 2012, the most extensive trials are occurring in southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan, as are select seed multiplication and pilot production sites. Carinata trials are also being conducted in Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec in partnership with Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) to test the regional adaptability of the Carinata crop, while profiling is underway this season in Michigan and North Dakota.

Agrisoma is developing Carinata as an energy feedstock crop, using proprietary crop improvement technology to develop Carinata lines that deliver enhanced yield of uniform, high quality oil for biodiesel and biojet fuel production.

“We are very pleased with how the Carinata is performing, especially in Western Canada. Despite difficult growing conditions in many areas, the crop is proving to be quite vigorous and competitive,” said Patrick Crampton, Vice President Business and Product Development for Agrisoma. “These trials are demonstrating the viability of Carinata as a sustainable and economically competitive feedstock for biofuels.”

While Carinata was featured at both the Mustard Field Day and Scott Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Station tours in July, Agrisoma is planning tours of two of its production sites in August for the following dates and locations:

• Frontier, SK – August 4
• Kincaid, SK – August 30

If growers or other members of the agriculture industry are interested in attending either of these tours or would like more information about these trials, please contact info@agrisoma.com.

Agrisoma Inc. is a private agricultural biotechnology company using its proprietary Engineered Trait Loci (ETL) technology to commercialize a suite of industry-leading oil quality and crop improvement traits for use in energy feedstock crops.
