Gro Alliance breaks ground on $2 Million RIB project and facility expansion

Cuba City, Wisconsin, USA
May 13, 2011

Gro Alliance, the nation’s largest, independently owned seed corn production company, has broken ground on a $2 million facility expansion project at its Cuba City, Wisconsin production facility. The expansion will give Gro Alliance the capability to condition and blend refuge-in-bag hybrids (RIB) while increasing the site’s production capacity by more than 30 percent through an expansion of the sizing and bulk seed handling system.

“Our success has always been based on delivering industry-leading seed quality while serving our customers’ needs by offering advanced packaging solutions and flexibility” said Jim Schweigert, vice president of business development. “Having a true RIB capable packaging system that validates the blend on a per bag basis for the 2011 crop season is absolutely essential for any future-focused company.”

The Gro Alliance RIB system will feature a duplex packaging system that will weigh each RIB component, ensuring an accurate blend on a per bag basis, and be capable of handling both one and two color blending strategies. The RIB packaging system will give the Cuba City facility two, separate packaging and treating lines enabling simultaneous overtreating, rebagging and new crop packaging activities.

“RIB blending on a per bag basis ensures an even distribution of refuge throughout the field and is the only way to guarantee that each farmer gets the proper refuge percentage” said Jim Schweigert. “Our system will not only do it, but prove it by recording the weight of each component in each bag for system validation.”

In addition to the RIB packaging system and facility expansion, Gro Alliance will be constructing a new headquarter office at the facility.

“We continue to be bullish on our future and are making the necessary investments to improve quality and service for our clients” said Lou Schweigert, president.

Gro Alliance delivers industry-leading seed quality and client-focused supply chain solutions in seed corn production, soybean seed production and specialty crop production for the food, beverage and biofuel industries. Gro Alliance was founded in 1941 by Gerald Schweigert and is proud to still be 100 percent owned by the Schweigert family. Gro Alliance’s seed conditioning and packaging system is ISO 9001:2008 certified.
