Canada - Syngenta strengthens farmer data protection with key certification

Guelph, Ontario, Canada
November 26, 2024

Syngenta recently achieved Ag Data Transparent (ADT) certification for its North American Cropwise digital agriculture platform, reinforcing its commitment to protecting farmer data.

ADT is a non-profit organization with a mission to review companies’ ag data policies and practices to provide farmers with simple, transparent, and trusted information. It protects customers by setting guidelines for how ag tech companies, like Syngenta, can collect, store, analyze and use their data.

"Being a member of the ADT certification demonstrates a company’s commitment to ethical data practices, building trust with farmers through clarity, accountability, and alignment with industry standards," says Erin Petrichuk, Digital Ag Enablement Lead for Syngenta Canada.

To become ADT certified, Syngenta was required to submit its data contracts and answer 11 questions related to ag data ownership, use, portability, and security. These answers were then reviewed and approved by a third party, resulting in the issue of the ADT seal.

The ADT certification confirms that all grower information uploaded, transmitted, or stored in Cropwise tools remains the property of Syngenta customers. It also verifies that Syngenta requires its partner companies to adhere to these strict data policies and obtain consent before sharing any data with third parties.

  • Increased confidence in adopting digital agriculture solutions

Syngenta remains committed to leading the way in both digital agricultural innovation and data protection. By continually improving its data management practices and seeking rigorous third-party certifications, Syngenta strives to maintain the highest levels of trust with farmers as they navigate the digital agricultural landscape.
