RiceTec launches iPhone app - New tool will aid farmers with proper grain drill calibration

RiceTec has launched the first-ever grain drill calibration mobile application, which is now available for download from iTunes® for the iPhone®, iPod Touch® and iPad®. Developed specifically for RiceTec, the app assists rice growers in calibrating their drills to plant RiceTec Hybrid Rice Seed.
The iPhone® app, an exact replica of the grain drill calibration feature on RiceTec’s website, is customizable to a grower’s specific situation. It allows a grower to identify his model of grain drill, which automatically calculates the row spacing, particular RiceTec Hybrid Rice Seed and other pertinent details. Once all the information is entered, the grower simply clicks on the “Calibration” tab and the app provides the grower with RiceTec’s recommended seeding rate to help ensure a successful crop. In addition to calibrating drills for RiceTec Hybrid Rice Seed, the app can also calibrate wheat, soybean and grain sorghum seed. The tool also shows contact information for RiceTec’s technical service reps.
“This free mobile app is one more way RiceTec provides the highest-quality technical support to rice growers,” said Dr. Brian Ottis, the company’s marketing and client support manager. “We plan to continue upgrading the app so that it benefits users year-round.”
Headquartered in Alvin, Texas, RiceTec Inc. has been developing hybrid rice seed since 1988, offering the first commercial hybrid rice seed product in 1999. RiceTec was founded on the premise that modern, technology-based breeding techniques – combined with a broad, diverse germplasm collection – allow for efficient development and economical production of superior hybrid seed products, as well as specialty rice for consumer markets. RiceTec also has research centers in Harrisburg, Ark., and at off-season locations in Puerto Rico, which allows the company to grow and test rice year-round. RiceTec is the only rice seed company with a technical service team on-call throughout the growing season to answer questions and make recommendations to help growers maximize the performance of their hybrid rice crops.
