In March, Dr. Martha Malapi, Director, Seed Health and Trade, traveled to the Philippines for The Asia and Pacific Seed Alliance’s 10th Phytosanitary Expert Consultation. At the consultation, representatives from 15 National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) from the region discussed current challenges facing the seed industry.
Dr. Malapi also visited the Philippines’ Plant Post-Entry Quarantine Station, where they discussed quarantine procedures for the importation of restricted plant material. She ended her trip by attending the Asia Pacific Association of Agricultural Resource Institutions (APAARI) Standards & Trade Development Facility (STDF) workshop. Harmonious policy with international partners will help the industry continue to thrive, while ensuring farmers have access to quality seed from one planting season to the next.
