Syngenta Seeds Canada adds the first aphid resistant variety to its high-performing NK Brand glyphosate tolerant soybean line-up

Arva, Ontarioo, Canada
March 10, 2011

Syngenta Seeds Canada, Inc. continues its leadership position in the Canadian soybean market with the development of the first aphid resistant, glyphosate tolerant AMS™ soybean variety in the country. S25-F2 has been endorsed by the Ontario Oil and Protein Seed Crops Committee (OOPSCC) and is now awaiting registration.

“We are excited about being able to combine aphid resistance in a Roundup Ready® variety for the first time,” says Don McClure, Breeding Project Lead for Soybeans at Syngenta Seeds Canada. “S25-F2 has a great agronomic package, resistant to several common soybean diseases in Ontario.”

“Soybean aphids first arrived in Ontario in 2001 and we‟ve seen them at certain sites every year since. They can cause significant stress for plants and the aphid resistant gene is shown to give good protection. The variety is part of our growing group of varieties that fit our Aphid Management Strategy (AMS).”

Committed to offering the most diverse product line-up, Syngenta has also added four new NK® Brand Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybean varieties to its high-performing line-up. S05-B3, S16-J4, S25-W4, and S28-M1 will be available for spring planting and offer several advantages. The new varieties will grow in a wide range of soil conditions and provide a diversity of beneficial traits, including: fast start, excellent emergence, slim line canopy and good lodging resistance.

Syngenta is also pleased to announce after years of advocating for a change, the OOPSCC soybean field trials will be assessed and reported using the RM system that the rest of NAFTA uses, rather than the old CHU system.
