Roger May, Oberlin, Kansas was named 2010 Premier Seed Grower by Kansas Crop Improvement Association at the 2011 Kansas Seed and Crops Conference held in Wichita on February 23.
To qualify for the award, members must have several years of experience as a certified seed producer, their business must have certified seed as a major component, must exhibit quality consciousness in all production and sales practices, and must be involved in public service activities.

May, who holds a B.S. degree in Animal Science from Kansas State University, is a fourth-generation farmer and manages the daily operations of the 125 year-old May Family Farm. He has served on both the Kansas Crop Improvement Association and the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers boards of directors. In addition, he serves on the local conservation board. He is active in his local church, 4-H, and FFA. Roger and his wife, Sue, won the American Farm Bureau Federation's Young Farmer and Rancher Achievement Award in 1993. They have two children, Erin, a third grader, and Ryan, a sophomore. Both kids are great farm hands, and plan to be the fifth generation to join the family farm. Roger’s father, Walter May, received the Premier Seed Grower Award in 1965.
Since its inception in 1930, 157 Premier Seed Grower awards have been presented. Recipients are selected by ballot with previous year’s honorees casting the votes. The award presentation is sponsored by the High Plains Journal.
