Väderstad, one of the world’s leading companies in tillage and seeding, introduced Proceed in the end of 2021. After a period of extensive testing and refinement our new product innovation is now ready to hit the market.
Since the first public showing in 2021, Proceed has been awarded for its innovation all over Europe. In both 2022 and 2023 it won the international Farm Machine award, previously known as ‘Machine of the year’. It has also been awarded at SIMA in France, LAMMA in the UK, AGROmashEXPO in Hungary and at the Agrosalon 2022 in Slovakia.
Proceed represents a new category of seeding machines, where one single machine can increase the yield potential in a full variety of crops, including wheat, barley, oilseed rape, sugar beet, peas, maize, sunflower and many more.
Due to its capability to place the smallest of seed at the perfect depth with millimeter precision, field trials have shown that Proceed can cut the wheat seed rate by half – while keeping the same yield compared to modern seed drills in the market. Even more importantly, the trials have shown that Proceed plants come up stronger due to less competition with other plants and more exposure to both sun and moisture, and very even in all growth stages of the crop year.
Trials of winter wheat at a seed rate of 150 seeds/m2 show an increase of 102% in plant biomass, 72% in root biomass and 62% more shoots per plant, compared to a modern seed drill.
– Proceed is one of those technological leaps that doesn’t happen often in the farm machinery industry, but when it does it changes things, says Mattias Hovnert, Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing at Väderstad.
The heart of Proceed is its high-precision row units. Prior to seed placement, individual pre-consolidation wheels consolidate the field to ensure same conditions for each seed. The pre-consolidation wheels are individually mounted, using hydraulic downforce to ensure high performance.
– When the seeds reach the row units from the central hopper, an adapted version of the world-leading Väderstad PowerShoot system take full control of each single seed all the way down to the soil. Leaving the short seed tube, each seed is received by a stop wheel. This ensures optimal seed-to-soil contact at selected depth all over the working width, says Oskar Karlsson, Director Product Management Planters, at Väderstad.
Since Proceed was first shown in 2021, our engineers and testing department have been hard at work, carrying out field tests to learn even more about how farmers can get the most out of Proceed. Together with customers Proceed have been thoroughly tested in many different countries all over Europe, and the concept has continuously been updated as we received new data. In the documentary series “Fields” on YouTube, Väderstad has invited the general public to take part of the development journey, to learn more about the Proceed machine concept and get extensive results from the field trials.
At the end of 2024, the first product model, Proceed V 24, will be ready for the market. Orders will be excepted from the end of 2024, with production starting in the beginning of 2025.
