Syngenta Canada launches Vibrance Total seed treatment for pulse crops

Guelph, Ontario, Canada
September 11, 2023

  • Five modes of action providing broad-spectrum disease control
  • New molecule with a unique mode of action for control of Pythium, including insensitive strains
  • Conveniently available in a premix, ready-to-apply formulation

Syngenta Canada Inc. announces the registration of Vibrance® Total, a new fungicide pulse seed treatment offering the most comprehensive and advanced level of protection found on the market today.

With five modes of action, Vibrance Total provides broad-spectrum disease control, including enhanced protection against Ascochyta blight.

Vibrance Total is the only pulse seed treatment on the market with the new active ingredient, picarbutrazox, giving growers highly effective protection against 13 different Pythium species found in western Canadian soils. Pythium is a serious pulse root pathogen, infecting the seeds and seedlings before emergence, threatening up to 50% of plant stand.1

“We’re pleased to add Vibrance Total to our lineup, raising the bar on what growers should expect from their fungicide seed treatment,” says Shad Milligan, Seedcare Technical Lead for Western Canada with Syngenta Canada. “With Vibrance Total, they’re getting the benefit of five proven active ingredients in a comprehensive seed treatment for exceptional crop establishment along with our most effective Pythium solution.”

In seeds and seedlings, Pythium infections can result in plant death prior to seed germination and seedling death after emergence.

“When seedlings survive Pythium infection, their roots are damaged and we see yield losses,” explains Shad. “This is compounded by patchy plant stands, which are more susceptible to weeds and harvest issues.”

Syngenta research has identified Pythium species with varying sensitivity to crop protection products currently registered in Canada. The registration of Vibrance Total brings a novel mode of action to the market, with efficacy on a broad number of Pythium species.

In small plot trials, seed treated with Vibrance Total showed a 38% higher plant stand establishment over the inoculated Pythium check in field peas.2

Vibrance Total will be available for the 2024 growing season and comes in a convenient premix, ready-to-apply formulation, sold in 2 x 10 L cases, 115 L drum and 450 L tote. It is applied at a rate of 325 mL/100 kg seed and has been extensively tested to ensure compatibility with all leading inoculant products.

“One feature of Vibrance Total that growers will appreciate is the new blue polymeric colourant for its ease of treating and cleanup,” Milligan adds.
