DSV Champion and Oxford taking joint first and second slots in AHDB harvest result

United Kingdom
14 September 2023

DSV Champion is in joint top position for yield in both the one-year and five-year AHDB harvest results for currently recommended varieties, with 26 of the 30 fungicide-treated trials sites now having been recorded and validated.

The results published on August 12th, show the variety on 106% of controls for both categories with the newly RL-listed DSV Oxford in joint second poisition for both the five-year results at 104% and the one-year results at 105% of controls.

"DSV Champion and DSV Oxford have been exceptionally high performing varieties in AHDB trials this year and this has been backed-up by results from other trials up and down the country.

"This underlines their remarkable consistency and resilience across a broad range of different locations and growing conditions and why they are proving exceptionally popular with growers drilling for 2024 harvest.

"In the current 2023/24 RL, DSV Champion is the top variety when drilled on heavy soils and second on light soils confirming its versatility and suitability to a wide range of sites.

'It's a great option for later planting, too, with one of the highest scores on the list for a late drilled situation and is the second highest yielding wheat on the RL when grown as either a first or second cereal.

As well as top level yield performance, DSV Oxford is a variety that excels when it comes to grain quality and in-field reliability, she says

"It's a variety that combines high treated and untreated yields with a robust disease package, borne out of our Wardington-based breeding station’s relatively Westerly location, with a 9 for yellow rust resistance in the latest RL.

“This is complimented by a sound overall agronomic package including 6s for Mildew and Fusarium resistance with the added benefit of OWBM resistance."
