Corteva Agriscience has opened its first combined crop protection and seed research laboratory in EMEA, helping drive innovation and deliver sustainable solutions for farmers.
With almost €6m of investment, the expansion of the R&D site in Eschbach, Germany, enables Corteva Agriscience to conduct state-of-the-art crop protection studies to help develop solutions which protect crops from pests and diseases.
In addition, the research center is energy-efficient with zero emissions from wastewater in line with Corteva Agriscience’s sustainability commitment.
The integrated site accommodates three R&D functions focused on seeds product development to create more stress tolerant and climate change resilient crops; molecular biology with a genotyping lab supporting seed purity testing; and crop protection discovery and development to meet sustainability objectives.
Bringing plant breeding and Crop Protection Field Sciences together also facilitates the development of new methods, such as digital trial evaluation with drones, remote sensing and the use of molecular biology to understand the susceptibility of plant diseases to new mode-of-actions.
Located in southwestern Germany at the border of France and Switzerland, the site is a key R&D location for the entire EMEA region and provides an excellent base to conduct field trials in almost all relevant European crops. It is fully incorporated in Corteva’s global lab network and is complementary to other laboratories in the U.S.
The Eschbach facility will also provide a boost for the local economy, not only through the move of European research programs to the site but also by employing more than 30 scientists and support staff, including experts for pest, disease and weed management.

Ausbau des Standorts treibt Innovationen in gesamter EMEA-Region voran
Corteva Agriscience hat sein erstes kombiniertes Pflanzenschutz- und Saatgutforschungslabor für die Regionen Europa, Mittlerer Osten und Afrika eröffnet, um Innovationen voranzutreiben und nachhaltige Lösungen für Landwirtinnen und Landwirte zu entwickeln.
Der Ausbau des Forschungs- und Entwicklungsstandorts in Eschbach, in den fast sechs Millionen Euro investiert wurden, ermöglicht Corteva Agriscience, hochmoderne Pflanzenschutzstudien durchzuführen, die zur Entwicklung von Lösungen zum Schutz von Nutzpflanzen vor Schädlingen und Krankheiten beitragen.
Das Forschungszentrum ist energieeffizient gebaut und hat keine Abwasseremissionen, was im Einklang mit der Nachhaltigkeitsverpflichtung von Corteva Agriscience steht.
Der integrierte Standort beherbergt drei F&E-Funktionen, die sich auf die Entwicklung von Saatgutprodukten konzentrieren.
So beschäftigten sich die Bereiche unter anderem mit der Erzeugung von stresstoleranteren und dem Klimawandel widerstandsfähigeren Nutzpflanzen, auf Ebene der Molekularbiologie mit einem Genotypisierungs-Labor, das die Prüfung der Saatgutreinheit unterstützt und mit der Erforschung und Entwicklung von Pflanzenschutzmitteln, um die Nachhaltigkeitsziele zu erreichen.
Die Zusammenführung von Pflanzenzüchtung und Pflanzenschutz-Feldforschung erleichtert auch die Entwicklung neuer Methoden, wie die digitale Versuchsauswertung mit Drohnen, die Fernerkundung und die Nutzung der Molekularbiologie, um die Anfälligkeit von Pflanzenkrankheiten für neue Wirkungsweisen zu verstehen.
Der im Südwesten Deutschlands an der Grenze zu Frankreich und der Schweiz gelegene Standort ist ein wichtiger F&E-Standort für die gesamte EMEA-Region und bietet eine hervorragende Basis für die Durchführung von Feldversuchen mit fast allen relevanten europäischen Kulturpflanzen.
Er ist vollständig in das globale Labornetzwerk von Corteva integriert und ergänzt die anderen Labore in den USA.
Die Anlage in Eschbach wird ebenfalls die lokale Wirtschaft ankurbeln und das nicht nur durch die Verlagerung europäischer Forschungsprogramme an diesen Standort, sondern auch durch die Beschäftigung von mehr als 30 WissenschaftlerInnen sowie Hilfskräften, zu denen ExpertInnen für Schädlings-, Krankheits- und Unkrautbekämpfung zählen.

Corteva inaugura su primer centro regional integrado de I+D en Eschbach, Alemania
Corteva Agriscience ha inaugurado su primer laboratorio combinado de investigación en protección de cultivos y semillas en EMEA, ayudando así a impulsar la innovación y a ofrecer soluciones sostenibles a los agricultores.
Con una inversión de casi 6 millones de euros, la ampliación del centro de I+D de Eschbach (Alemania) permite a Corteva Agriscience llevar a cabo los estudios más avanzados sobre protección de cultivos para ayudar a desarrollar soluciones que protejan los cultivos de plagas y enfermedades. Además, el centro de investigación es energéticamente eficiente, con cero emisiones de aguas residuales, de acuerdo con el compromiso de sostenibilidad de Corteva.
El centro integrado alberga tres funciones de I+D centradas en el desarrollo de productos de semillas para crear cultivos más tolerantes al estrés y resistentes al cambio climático; biología molecular con un laboratorio de genotipificación que ayuda en las pruebas de pureza de las semillas; y descubrimiento y desarrollo de protección de cultivos para cumplir los objetivos de sostenibilidad.
Se trata de un punto clave de I+D para toda la región EMEA y para España en particular, y ofrece una base excelente para realizar ensayos de campo en casi todos los cultivos europeos de interés.
La combinación de las áreas de fitomejoramiento y de protección de cultivos también facilita el desarrollo de nuevos métodos, como la evaluación digital de ensayos con drones, la teledetección y el uso de la biología molecular para comprender la susceptibilidad de las enfermedades de las plantas a los nuevos modos de acción.
Situado en el suroeste de Alemania, en la frontera con Francia y Suiza, se trata de un punto clave de I+D para toda la región EMEA y para España en particular, y ofrece una base excelente para realizar ensayos de campo en casi todos los cultivos europeos de interés. En este sentido, las instalaciones de Eschbach actúan de complemento para el Centro Tecnológico de Investigación de Corteva en Sevilla, referente a nivel mundial especialmente en girasol, siendo Eschbach el laboratorio de referencia para el análisis de marcadores moleculares imprescindible en las técnicas de breeding actuales.
