APPF Executive Director Dr Susie Robinson recently joined an Australian delegation which visited The Netherlands and Denmark to see the European agri-food industry in action.
The unique experience, part of KPMG’s 2022 Agri-Food Tech & Internet of Farms Traction Program, saw the delegation investigate the opportunities presented by the circular economy, which Susie described as “a truly inspirational experience”.
Susie said it was fantastic to spend extended time in the company of Australia’s leaders in agri-food to make enduring connections.
“The diversity of the sites we toured meant that there was something for everybody, and also gave us the chance to learn from domains outside one’s every day role,” she said.
“It was phenomenal, and sobering, to see how deeply embedded the issues of sustainability and circularity in agri-food are within European policy and regulations, how they are central to the agri-food industries, and those industries’ relationships with the research sector there.”
“I came away from the experience with the strong belief that the opportunities and challenges presented around sustainability and circularity will be with us in Australia in a big way, and soon.”
The Traction Program, coordinated by KPMG in collaboration with the Food and Agribusiness Growth Centre, the University of Queensland and Charles Sturt University, is designed to help drive the success of Australia’s agri-food sector by providing senior executives and emerging leaders with access to best-in-class insights and a platform from which to collaborate and solve complex problems.
