- The European Seed Association will hold its annual congress from 13-15 October
- Symborg’s products based on natural microorganisms improve seed efficiency
The agricultural biotechnology company Symborg will actively participate in the Euroseed Congress, the annual European Seed Association (ESA,) Congress on 13-15 October in Stockholm. Symborg will be one of the sponsors of this event together with Bayer, DowDuPont and Petkus.
The Euroseed Congress brings together the most important seed companies and plant breeders in Europe and the world, as well as agricultural and technological solution providers for this sector. The last edition of the Euroseed Congress, held in Madrid, exceeded a thousand participants from 47 countries, all professionals in the sector, commercial delegates, scientists, producers, etc.
During the meeting, key issues such as European seed policies, organic farming, research strategies, the European protein production plan, etc. will be addressed. The conferences will be divided into several panels focused on different types of key crops: oilseeds and textiles, forage and grasses, corn and sorghum, cereals and legumes, vegetables and ornamental crops and potatoes (See program).
Continuous advances in science and technological development have turned seeds into high-tech, high-added-value products, therefore the seed industry is looking for tools that improve plants and allow them to develop new varieties in an efficient way while protecting the environment. Symborg, a member of the International Seed Federation since 2017, will present its new sustainable bioagricultural developments based on natural organisms to the companies present at the Euroseed Congress.
Thanks to its research in state-of-the-art biotechnology, Symborg has developed solutions based on exclusive microorganisms patented by the company that allow farmers to increase the profitability of their crops without environmental impact.
Seed treatment experience
Symborg’s products, such as the biological inoculant Resid HC, are based on exclusive microorganisms with proven effectiveness in seed treatments. They provide grain cereal seeds such as corn, soybean or sunflower (and legumes, in general) with natural microorganisms that remain dormant for prolonged periods in their coating. After germination, these microorganisms are incorporated into plants and become future beneficial agents for their development.
Resid HC is based on the activity of Glomus iranicum var tenuihypharum, an arbuscular mycorrhizal forming fungus that, in symbiosis with crop roots, improves the ability to absorb and transfer nutrients to the plant. With more abundant and balanced nutrition, the plant achieves a more controlled hormonal balance and responds better to all types of abiotic stress. The best-fed crops increase their physiological and photosynthetic activity, and also improve their productive capacity.
It is a natural biological principle that does not produce undesirable residues in plants or alter their genetic characteristics. This method is 100% compatible with the environment.
Percentages of productive increases
Trials on plants grown from seeds treated with Resid HC show average production increases of 7% in corn. In wheat, the results show production increases ranging from 9.7% to 16%, depending on the variety. In barley, the number of tons collected per hectare increases by 8.5% to 15%, depending on the variety, and soybean shows average increases of 8.5%.
