Manuel Boss leitet ab 1. Juni 2021 den Kompetenzbereich «Pflanzen und pflanzliche Produkte» bei Agroscope. Er bringt sein grosses Netzwerk und seine Erfahrungen in Wissenschaft und Agrarpolitik mit. Bisher hat Manuel Boss in Brüssel als Botschaftsrat Landwirtschaft gewirkt. Davor war er beim Bundesamt für Landwirtschaft und bei Syngenta tätig.
Manuel Boss startet am 1. Juni 2021 als neuer Leiter des Kompetenzbereichs «Pflanzen und pflanzliche Produkte» bei Agroscope. Damit wird er auch Mitglied der Geschäftsleitung. Manuel Boss möchte mit seiner Arbeit innovative Lösungsansätze mitentwickeln, um die Transformation der heutigen Land- und Ernährungswirtschaft hin zu einem durchgehend nachhaltigen System von der Produktion bis zur Ernährung voranzutreiben. Denn nur mit einer Minderung der vielen Zielkonflikte liessen sich laut Boss die grossen Herausforderungen meistern, denen die Schweizer Land- und Ernährungswirtschaft gegenüberstehen: Klimawandel, Biodiversitätsverlust, Übernutzung von natürlichen Ressourcen, Ernährung einer wachsenden Bevölkerung und Aufrechterhaltung der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit.
Vielfältige Erfahrungen und grosses Netzwerk
Bisher hat Manuel Boss in Brüssel als Botschaftsrat Landwirtschaft bei der Schweizer Mission gewirkt. Davor war er beim Bundesamt für Landwirtschaft und bei Syngenta tätig in den Bereichen Agrarpolitik sowie in Forschung und Entwicklung. Diese vielfältigen Erfahrungen und sein Netzwerk, das von Bundesstellen über Kantone und Branchenverbände bis hin zu den Agrar- und Wissenschaftsverantwortlichen in der EU reicht, werden ihm als neuer Leiter des Kompetenzbereichs «Pflanzen und pflanzliche Produkte» nützlich sein.
In seiner neuen Rolle will Boss den Fokus auf die Zusammenhänge und Zielkonflikte legen und seinen Kompetenzbereich weiter vernetzen, fortentwickeln und noch sichtbarer machen. «Ich möchte den Bereich mit seinen Leistungen unabdingbar machen: für die Mitarbeitenden, für Agroscope, für die Schweizer Landwirtschaft und die Schweizer Bevölkerung», bringt es Boss auf den Punkt.
Manuel Boss folgt auf Willy Kessler
Manuel Boss löst Willy Kessler ab, der den Kompetenzbereich «Pflanzen und pflanzliche Produkte» seit 2017 leitete. Die Geschäftsleitung von Agroscope dankt Willy Kessler für sein grosses Engagement bei Agroscope und wünscht ihm alles Gute und viel Freude im Ruhestand.
Manuel Boss reprend le domaine de compétences «Plantes et produits d’origine végétale» d'Agroscope
Manuel Boss prendra ses fonctions en qualité de nouveau responsable du domaine de compétences «Plantes et produits d’origine végétale» d’Agroscope le 1er juin 2021. Il apporte avec lui son vaste réseau et son expérience dans les domaines de la politique agricole et de la science. Auparavant, il a travaillé comme conseiller d'ambassade pour l'agriculture à Bruxelles et avant cela, à l'Office fédéral de l'agriculture et chez Syngenta.
Manuel Boss entrera en fonction le 1er juin 2021 en tant que nouveau responsable du domaine de compétences «Plantes et produits d’origine végétale» d’Agroscope. En cette qualité, il fera également partie du comité de direction d’Agroscope. Dans le cadre de ses fonctions, Manuel Boss souhaite contribuer à l'élaboration de solutions innovantes pour favoriser la transition de l'agriculture et du secteur alimentaire suisses actuels vers un système entièrement durable qui englobe la production et l’alimentation. Selon lui, c’est la seule façon de surmonter les principaux défis auxquels est confronté ce secteur: changement climatique, perte de biodiversité, surexploitation des ressources naturelles, alimentation d'une population croissante et maintien de la compétitivité.
Expérience diversifiée et vaste réseau
Avant son engagement chez Agroscope, Manuel Boss a travaillé comme conseiller d'ambassade pour l'agriculture à la Mission suisse de Bruxelles. Avant cela, il a travaillé à l'Office fédéral de l'agriculture et chez Syngenta dans les domaines de la politique agricole ainsi que de la recherche et du développement. Cette vaste expérience et son important réseau, qui comprend des offices fédéraux, des cantons et des associations professionnelles ainsi que les responsables de l'agriculture et de la science dans l'UE, lui seront utiles en tant que nouveau responsable du domaine de compétences «Plantes et produits d’origine végétale».
Dans ses nouvelles fonctions, Manuel Boss entend se concentrer sur les interrelations et les conflits d’objectifs et continuer à mettre en réseau et à développer son domaine de compétences pour le rendre encore plus visible. «J’entend rendre ce domaine et ses prestations indispensables: pour les collaboratrices et les collaborateurs, pour Agroscope, pour l'agriculture et la population suisses», résume Manuel Boss.

Manuel Boss succède à Willy Kessler, qui a dirigé le domaine de compétences «Plantes et produits d’origine végétale» depuis 2017. Le comité de direction d'Agroscope remercie Willy Kessler pour son grand engagement en faveur d'Agroscope et lui souhaite une retraite longue et heureuse.
Manuel Boss assume la direzione del centro di competenza «Piante e prodotti vegetali»
Dal 1° giugno 2021 Manuel Boss dirigerà il centro di competenza «Piante e prodotti vegetali» presso Agroscope. Porta con sé la sua vasta rete e un bagaglio di esperienze in ambito scientifico e nella politica agricola. Finora Manuel Boss lavorava a Bruxelles come consigliere d’ambasciata per l’agricoltura. Prima ancora aveva lavorato all’Ufficio federale dell’agricoltura e a Syngenta.
Il 1° giugno 2021 Manuel Boss sarà il nuovo capo del centro di competenza «Piante e prodotti vegetali» di Agroscope ed entrerà a far parte del Consiglio di direzione. Con il suo lavoro, Manuel Boss intende coadiuvare lo sviluppo di soluzioni innovative per guidare la trasformazione dell’attuale filiera agroalimentare verso un sistema sostenibile a lungo termine, dalla produzione all’alimentazione. Secondo Manuel Boss l’unico modo per superare le grandi sfide della filiera agroalimentare svizzera è quello di ridurre gli innumerevoli obiettivi contrastanti: i cambiamenti climatici, la perdita di biodiversità, l’eccessivo sfruttamento delle risorse naturali, l’alimentazione di una popolazione in crescita e il mantenimento della competitività.
Ricca esperienza e rete capillare
Finora Manuel Boss lavorava a Bruxelles come consigliere d’ambasciata per l’agricoltura presso la Missione della Svizzera. Prima ancora aveva lavorato all’Ufficio federale dell’agricoltura e a Syngenta nei settori della politica agricola nonché della ricerca e dello sviluppo. Il nuovo capo del centro di competenza «Piante e prodotti vegetali» metterà a frutto la sua ricca esperienza e la sua rete, che si estende dagli uffici federali ai Cantoni e alle associazioni del settore fino ai responsabili dell’agricoltura e della scienza nell’UE.
Nel suo nuovo ruolo, Manuel Boss intende concentrarsi sulle interrelazioni e sugli obiettivi conflittuali, oltre che a mettere in rete e sviluppare ulteriormente il suo centro di competenza e dargli maggiore visibilità. «Voglio che il centro e i suoi servizi diventino indispensabili: per i collaboratori, per Agroscope, per l’agricoltura svizzera e per la popolazione svizzera», riassume Boss.

Manuel Boss sostituisce Willy Kessler, che ha diretto il centro di competenza «Piante e prodotti vegetali» dal 2017. Il Consiglio di direzione di Agroscope ringrazia Willy Kessler per il suo instancabile impegno per Agroscope e gli augura un pensionamento sereno e proficuo.

Manuel Boss takes over the reins of the ‘Plants and Plant Products’ Competence Division at Agroscope on 1 June 2021. He brings with him his extensive network and his experience in science and agricultural policy. Up till now, Manuel Boss has worked in Brussels as an Embassy Counsellor for Agriculture. Prior to this, he was employed at the Federal Office for Agriculture and Syngenta.
Manuel Boss takes up his post as the new Head of the ‘Plant and Plant Products’ Competence Division at Agroscope on 1 June 2021. In doing so, he also becomes a Member of the Executive Board. Boss aims to contribute to the development of innovative approaches to transforming today’s agriculture and food sector into a thoroughly sustainable system, from production to food. According to Boss, it is only by reducing the many trade-offs that the major challenges facing the Swiss agriculture and food sector – climate change, loss of biodiversity, overuse of natural resources, feeding a growing population and maintaining competitiveness – can be met.
Wide-ranging experience and an extensive network
Up till now, Manuel Boss has worked in Brussels as an Embassy Counsellor for Agriculture at the Swiss Mission. Before this, he worked in the areas of agricultural policy and research and development at the Federal Office for Agriculture and at Syngenta. This wide-ranging experience and his extensive network, which ranges from federal agencies to cantons and sectoral associations, all the way to the people responsible for agriculture and science in the EU, will serve him well in his capacity as the new Head of the ‘Plants and Plant Products’ Competence Division.
In his new role, Boss wants to place the focus on interrelationships and trade-offs, and continue to network, develop and raise the profile of his competence division. “I’d like to make the Division and its services indispensable: for the employees, for Agroscope, for the Swiss agricultural sector and the Swiss population” says Boss, summing up his goals.
