Syngenta's Agripro brand breakthrough new wheat variety adaptable to diverse Pacific Northwest growing conditions

Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
January 8, 2020

To assist wheat growers in the Pacific Northwest managing wide variations in growing conditions and moisture zones, Syngenta is adding a hard red spring wheat variety with exceptional moisture adaptability to the company’s proven portfolio of AgriPro® brand wheat. AP Renegade will be available to purchase for the 2020 planting season.

The Pacific Northwest is home to a diverse mix of growing conditions – from dryland to heavily rain-fed and irrigated. Wheat producers must closely monitor their field conditions to adapt and respond to changes in precipitation and threats posed by pests and disease. AP Renegade offers a strong disease and pest package to help address these challenges.

Over a three-year trial period, AP Renegade consistently yielded higher bu/acre than the average across multiple locations.1 Trial results show AP Renegade produces above-average test weight, good protein and straw strength. This new variety also offers Hessian fly resistance, good stripe rust tolerance and Fusarium head blight tolerance.

“Year after year, we continue to deliver AgriPro wheat varieties that address the needs of our growers, and AP Renegade is no exception,” said Riley Hille, AgriPro key account lead in the Western region. “AP Renegade is performing well in Syngenta and university trials in the Pacific Northwest, especially in areas where Hessian fly is a common problem. We’re looking forward to seeing first-hand how this new variety can benefit our growers and their wheat operations.”

Backed by more than 50 years of wheat breeding expertise, AgriPro wheat varieties are consistent top performers that offer best-in-class disease packages, leading agronomics and outstanding yields.
