CSTA Welcomes New President and Board Members

At the 96th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Seed Trade Association (CSTA), CSTA was pleased to welcome its new president and five new board members.

Mr. Georges Chaussé will be the 68th President of CSTA. Chaussé leads the seed division at Sollio Agriculture, which is based in Montreal, Quebec. He has a degree from the Agri-Food Institute of St Hyacinthe, Québec and an MBA from École des Sciences de la Gestion de l’UQÀM, Montréal. He started his career in the seed industry as a local sales rep in a coop in Joliette, Quebec and has held senior roles at the Canadian International Development Agency and La Coop Fédérée.

Chaussé has served as a member of CSTA since 1999 and was elected to CSTA’s Board of Directors in 2013. He has chaired the Forage Committee and served a member of the Stakeholder Relations Working Group. He also served as the President of the Association des Marchands de Semences du Québec (AMSQ) from 2007 to 2019. “I’m honoured to take on this new leadership role at the Canadian Seed Trade Association. As President, I look forward to working with our members to further the causes that are important to them and to the seed industry at large”, said Chaussé.

Chaussé will lead a 16-person Board of Directors, who remain focused on serving CSTA members and developing opportunities within the seed industry for innovation and growth. It is CSTA’s privilege to welcome five new board members this year:

• Scott Ewert, Syngenta Canada
• Rob Schultz, Bayer CropScience
• Jeff Loessin, Corteva Agriscience
• Jim Bagshaw, Canterra
• Brent Collins, BASF Canada

CSTA’s Board of Directors also includes: Ellen Sparry, C&M Seeds, 1st Vice-President; Doug Alderman, PRIDE Seeds, 2nd Vice President; Todd Hyra, SeCan, Past President; and returning Board members Wayne Gale, Stokes Seeds Limited; Bruce Harrison, Nutrien Ag Solutions; Bob Hart, Sevita International; Brian Nadeau, Nadeau Seeds; Roger Rotariu, Nufarm Agriculture; Denise Schmidt, Cibus; and Jim Schweigert, Gro Alliance, LLC.

“CSTA is fortunate to have a driven and dedicated Board of Directors representing all aspects of the seed industry, from research and production to marketing and trade. We’re pleased to welcome our new President and Board members, who will bring a fresh perspective while continuing to further CSTA’s mission: to foster seed industry innovation,” said Dave Carey, Executive Director, CSTA.

CSTA members are proud contributors to our nation’s economy and to the health and well-being of Canadian consumers. Learn more about CSTA at seedinnovation.ca.
