Australian OGTR - Call for nominations for the Gene Technology Technical Advisory Committee and the Gene Technology Ethics and Community Consultative Committee
Australia
May 10, 2019
Nominations for the 2020-23 memberships of the Gene Technology Technical Advisory Committee (GTTAC) and the Gene Technology Ethics and Community Consultative Committee (GTECCC) are being sought from suitably qualified individuals. Nominations close on 21 June 2019.
The Gene Technology Act 2000 (the Act), in conjunction with corresponding State and Territory legislation, underpins the national scheme for the regulation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Australia. The Act establishes an independent decision maker, the Gene Technology Regulator (the Regulator), to administer the legislation. The Legislative and Governance Forum on Gene Technology (the Forum) oversees the implementation of the national scheme and is comprised of Ministers from all Australian jurisdictions.
The role of the Gene Technology Committees is to provide advice on request to the Regulator and the Forum. GTTAC provides scientific and technical advice, while GTECCC provides advice on ethical issues and matters of general concern to the community in relation to GMOs.
Further information about the Committees and the appointment process, including links to the nomination forms, is available via the links below.
Nomination forms must be submitted to the OGTR by 21 June 2019.
