The Yield Lab is pleased to announce Jim Tobin and Kieran Gartlan as new Managing Directors at the Yield Lab. Jim will join the North American based Yield Lab accelerator out of St. Louis, and Kieran will join the Latin American accelerator, opening the Sao Paulo - Brazil operation.
“I am looking forward to working with this great organization and its team members. I have been a longtime supporter of the Yield Lab and look forward to helping develop some of the most cutting edge technologies out there that will help achieve the Yield Lab mission,” said Tobin, “I’ve always been passionate about business development and will use my experience to help the Yield Lab portfolio as best I can.”
Jim, recently retired after a 31 year career at Monsanto, spent his time there in various roles including product management, seed business integration, crop protection, the global cotton business and industry affairs. Jim has a keen sense for understanding a business and the unique nature of evolving business models and how technology can impact both the farmer and the world.
“I am very excited to be joining the Yield Lab,” said Gartlan, “I have seen enormous transformation as commodities markets moved from trading pits to the screen over the past 25 years. Physical markets are now ripe for the same transformation. Electronification is happening everywhere, including on my home farm in Ireland, which is now completely automated."
Kieran Gartlan is an agricultural commodities expert with over 20 years’ experience in Latin America. Originally from Ireland – growing up on a small dairy farm – he graduated with a Master’s degree in Economics from UCD. His love of travel led him around the world, living in New York, London and Paris before settling in Brazil in the mid 90’s. There he worked as an investment banker with Santander and a Commodities reporter for Dow Jones and DTN, earning him prestigious prizes such as a National Excellence Award (2007) from the North American Agricultural Journalists Association (NAAJ) and a Jesse H Neal Award (2010) for best recurring Webcast. Kieran’s most recently role was as Senior Director for the CME Group, where he headed the Brazil office helping customers manage risk and growing business across the region.
