Australia - Syngenta's Dual Gold label extension gives sorghum and cotton growers more flexibility

Australia
November 19, 2018

Syngenta announces DUAL GOLDĀ® label extension for over-the-top use in cotton and sorghum.

What the summer cropping season might deliver remains the great unknown but DUAL GOLD® will at least help growers keep their options open under a new label extension.

DUAL GOLD is now registered for use in-fallow for hard to control grass weeds and even over the top of sorghum and cotton.

“DUAL GOLD is a great alternative for growers leaving their options open to plant various crops depending on the available moisture and commodity prices, without being locked out like they might with some other residual chemistries,” said Syngenta Product Lead for Commodity Management Excellence, Mal Wood.

“DUAL GOLD has relatively short plant back restrictions for key crops in the northern cropping zone when compared to many other residuals giving growers flexibility of crop choice.”

The new use patterns now available to growers include:

Cotton -  Now able to spray over-the-top of the crop, from 4 to 18 node, giving cotton growers flexibility in its use pattern. Growers can still chose to apply post-plant, pre crop-emergence, if desired. However, the over the top registration will enable those growers who have crop sensitivity concerns to switch to this new use pattern. DUAL GOLD can also be applied with an application of Roundup Ready herbicide on Roundup Ready Flex cotton.

Sorghum - Over-the-top application now registered, giving growers flexibility and ability to apply it precisely when needed. There’s added flexibility since it can now be used under a split application in sorghum; at four weeks prior to sowing, at sowing and in-crop but NOT after the 6-leaf stage and NOT exceeding 2L/ha within the growing season. In all sorghum use patterns, seed must have been treated with Concep® II Sorghum Seed Safener.

In fallow - Now able to be used in fallow to control hard to kill grass weeds such as Feathertop Rhodes Grass. DUAL GOLD provides a flexible pre-emergent option, when combined with a knockdown herbicide. A good choice for growers seeking to minimize or manage Glyphosate resistant or tolerant grass weeds. As DUAL GOLD is a group K, it offers an alternate mode of action, controlling weeds before they emerge.

Growers should rotate chemistry as part of a herbicide resistance management strategy to continue to maintain effectiveness of all herbicides as per industry guidelines

“The successful registration of this label extension is a win for northern cropping zone growers in particular,” said Mal.

“This extension for fallow use and over the top cotton and sorghum gives growers greater flexibility than ever before on key crops in summer cropping regions particularly as DUAL GOLD has fewer plant-back restrictions than many competitor products.”

Always follow label directions when using crop protection products.
