Dr. Roland Peter wird neuer Leiter des Strategischen Forschungsbereichs «Pflanzenzüchtung». Roland Peter ist Ingenieur Agronom ETH Zürich und arbeitet zurzeit bei der KWS SAAT SE in Einbeck, Deutschland. Zu Agroscope bringt er ein fundiertes Wissen mit und langjährige Erfahrung im Bereich der Pflanzenzüchtung und der genetischen Ressourcen. Auf den 1. Februar 2019 übernimmt er die Nachfolge von Michael Winzeler, der per Ende November in Pension geht.
Von der ETH Zürich zur KWS Saat SE nach Deutschland
Dr. Roland Peter startete seine berufliche Karriere 2003 an der ETH Zürich mit einer Assistenz im Bereich der Stressforschung von Mais. 2008 wechselte er zum Deutschen Pflanzenzüchtungs- und Biotechnologie-Unternehmen KWS SAAT SE in Einbeck (D). Dort leitet er seit 2012 die Maiszüchtung Deutschland; zuvor war er im gleichen Unternehmen Leiter Maiszüchtung Südosteuropa, Projektleiter Genetische Ressourcen und züchterischer Berater des Maisvertriebs für KWS China.
Ausbildung
Roland Peter absolvierte sein Studium zum Ingenieur Agronom an der ETH Zürich in der Fachrichtung Agrarpflanzenwissenschaften. Seine Diplomarbeit schrieb er zum Thema «Chilling tolerance of Swiss maize landraces». Darauf folgte ein PhD-Studium in Pflanzenwissenschaften ebenfalls an der ETH Zürich; seine Dissertation trägt den Titel «Early vigour of Swiss maize landraces in cool environments – agronomic performance and root characteristics» und fand im Rahmen eines Projekts des nationalen Aktionsplans für die Erhaltung und langfristige Nutzung von pflanzengenetischen Ressourcen (NAP) statt.
Roland Peter folgt auf Michael Winzeler
Bei Agroscope übernimmt Roland Peter am 1. Februar 2019 die Leitung des Strategischen Forschungsbereichs «Pflanzenzüchtung» und wird in dieser Funktion auch Mitglied der Geschäftsleitung. Er folgt auf Michael Winzeler, der auf Ende 2018 in den Ruhestand geht. Die Geschäftsleitung von Agroscope bedankt sich bei Michael Winzeler für seinen langjährigen und grossen Einsatz in der Züchtung von Nutzpflanzen und heisst Roland Peter herzlich willkommen.

Le Dr Roland Peter a été nommé responsable du domaine stratégique de recherche «Amélioration des plantes». Roland Peter possède un diplôme d’ingénieur agronome de l’EPFZ et travaille actuellement auprès de l’entreprise KWS SAAT SE à Einbeck en Allemagne. Agroscope bénéficiera de ses solides connaissances ainsi que de ses longues années d’expérience dans le domaine de la sélection végétale et des res-sources génétiques. Le 1er février 2019, il succèdera à Michael Winzeler qui prendra sa retraite fin novembre 2018.
De l’EPFZ à l’entreprise KWS Saat SE en Allemagne
Le Dr Roland Peter a débuté sa carrière professionnelle en 2003 auprès de l’EPFZ en tant qu’assistant dans le domaine de la recherche sur le stress chez le maïs. En 2008, il a poursuivi son parcours dans l’entreprise allemande de sélection végétale et de biotechnologie KWS SAAT SE à Einbeck où il dirige le secteur d’activité Maiszüchtung Deutschland (sélection de maïs Allemagne) depuis 2012. Auparavant, au sein de la même entreprise, il a occupé les postes de responsable de la sélection de maïs pour l’Europe du Sud-Est, de chef de projet Genetische Ressourcen (ressources génétiques) et de conseiller en sélection de la commercialisation du maïs pour la filiale KWS Chine.
Formation
Roland Peter a suivi des études d’ingénieur agronome à l’EPFZ dans la filière « Sciences végétales ». Son travail de diplôme a porté sur le thème suivant: «Chilling tolerance of Swiss maize landraces». Il a ensuite effectué une thèse de doctorat en sciences végétales, également auprès de l’EPFZ. Sa thèse intitulée «Early vigour of Swiss maize landraces in cool environments – agronomic performance and root characteristics» a été réalisée dans le cadre du projet du Plan d'action national pour la conservation et l’utilisation durable des ressources phytogénétiques.
Roland Peter succède à Michael Winzeler
A partir du 1er février 2019, Roland Peter occupera le poste de responsable du domaine stratégique de recherche «Amélioration des plantes» d’Agroscope et deviendra à ce titre membre du comité de direction. Il prendra la succession de Michael Winzeler, qui part à la retraite fin 2018. Le comité de direction d’Agroscope remercie Michael Winzeler pour ses longues années d’engagement en faveur de la sélection des plantes utiles et souhaite la bienvenue à Roland Peter.
Roland Peter to Become New Head of Plant Breeding at Agroscope
Dr. Roland Peter is to become the new Head of the ‘Plant Breeding’ Strategic Research Division. The holder of a degree in Agronomic Engineering from the ETH Zurich, Roland Peter currently works at KWS SAAT SE in Einbeck, Germany. He brings in-depth knowledge and many years’ experience in plant breeding and genetic resources with him to Agroscope. On 1 February 2019 he will succeed Michael Winzeler, who is retiring at the end of November 2018.
From the ETH Zurich to the KWS Saat SE in Germany
Dr. Roland Peter began his professional career at the ETH Zurich in 2003 as a research assistant in the field of maize stress. In 2008 he moved to the German plant breeding and biotechnology company KWS SAAT SE in Einbeck, where he has been Head of Maize Breeding in Germany since 2012. Before this, he was Head of Maize Breeding in Southeastern Europe, Genetic Resources Project Manager, and Breeding Advisor for Maize Sales for KWS China in the same company.
Education
Roland Peter graduated as an Engineer Agronomist with a specialisation in Agricultural Plant Sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. His degree thesis was on the subject of the chilling tolerance of Swiss maize landraces. He then completed a PhD in Plant Sciences, also at the ETH Zurich; his thesis, entitled ‘Early vigour of Swiss maize landraces in cool environments – agronomic performance and root characteristics’, was undertaken within the framework of the National Action Plan (NAP) project for the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources.
Roland Peter succeeds Michael Winzeler
Roland Peter takes over as Head of the ‘Plant Breeding’ Strategic Research Division at Agroscope on 1 February 2019, in which capacity he also becomes a Member of the Executive Board. He succeeds Michael Winzeler, who will be retiring in late 2018. The Agroscope Executive Board would like to thank Michael Winzeler for his many years of valuable service in crop breeding, and to extend a warm welcome to Roland Peter.
