Monsanto s’étonne des déclarations de Mme le Ministre de l’Ecologie sur le Roundup® et de la stigmatisation de notre entreprise auprès de l’opinion française.
Le glyphosate est aujourd’hui une substance générique, matière active qui rentre dans la composition d’environ 180 désherbants destinés aux jardiniers amateurs français. La gamme Roundup est ainsi une marque parmi d’autres.
Le statut réglementaire du produit est parfaitement clair et à ce jour absolument aucune nouvelle donnée scientifique récente ne permet de remettre en cause son autorisation ou ses conditions de commercialisation. Nous continuons à travailler activement avec les autorités compétentes pour assurer la ré-homologation décennale européenne du glyphosate, matière active présente dans de nombreux désherbants dont Roundup. Le glyphosate avait été réhomologué par l’UE en 2002.
Monsanto est confiant dans la qualité des produits que nous proposons aux jardiniers, spécialement conçus pour un usage domestique en toute sûreté. Dans les conditions recommandées d’utilisation figurant sur les étiquettes, le produit ne présente pas de risque particulier pour l’utilisateur.
En outre, Monsanto et Roundup promeuvent activement l’usage des bonnes pratiques auprès des jardiniers et utilisateurs amateurs depuis plus de 20 ans. Il s’agit de s’assurer d’utiliser le bon produit (formules adaptées : concentrées ou prêtes à l’emploi) au bon endroit au bon moment (saisonnalité et conditions météorologiques : par exemple, toujours privilégier une journée sans vent pour éviter les projections indésirables et sans pluie pour éviter le ruissellement vers un point d’eau) avec les bons équipements (pulvérisateur). Toutes ces informations sont largement diffusées et mises en avant auprès du grand public, à la fois sur les lieux de vente et sur des sites Internet spécialisés qui proposent des solutions raisonnées faisant appel à toutes les alternatives disponibles : désherbants, désherbage manuel ou organisation du jardin etc.
Quelques rappels sur le processus d’homologation du glyphosate
La substance glyphosate, comme n’importe quelle substance active, fait l’objet d’un processus réglementaire très encadré avant toute mise sur le marché d’un nouveau produit.
- L’homologation de la substance active est réalisée au niveau européen, tous les 10 ans, sur la base du corpus exhaustif des données et études disponibles. Le processus de réhomologation en cours est mené par l’Allemagne en tant que pays rapporteur qui a réaffirmé début 2015 la sûreté de la substance.
- Au niveau de chaque Etat membre, dont la France, a lieu l’autorisation des produits formulés, contenant la matière active et ses adjuvants, qui sont commercialisés par différents opérateurs sous différentes marques.
- En France et de manière unique en Europe, la commercialisation auprès des amateurs est conditionnée à l’obtention de la « Mention EAJ – Emploi autorisé dans les jardins » et concerne l’ensemble des produits phytosanitaires, qu’ils soient naturels ou de synthèse. Concrètement, AUCUN produit classé toxique ne peut être vendu à des jardiniers amateurs. Les produits Roundup Jardin ont tous reçu la mention EAJ.

Monsanto is surprised by French Environment Minister Ségolène Royal’s latest statements about Roundup®.
Glyphosate is a generic substance that is present in the composition of about 180 different weed killers sold to gardeners and farmers in France and other countries. The Roundup® range is just one brand among others.
Glyphosate’s regulatory status is perfectly clear and as of today there is no new or recent scientific data that has given regulators pause to question its authorisation or sales conditions. Monsanto and other producers of glyphosate-branded products continue to work with the competent regulatory authorities to ensure the 10-year European renewal for glyphosate. Glyphosate was last renewed for sale within the EU in 2002.
Monsanto is confident in the quality of the products that we offer to gardeners and which have been specifically designed for a safe usage at home. When used according to the recommendations on the packaging, the product does not pose any specific risks to the user.
Furthermore, Monsanto and Roundup have been actively promoting good practices for gardeners for more than 20 years. This is about using the right product (formula: in concentrated form or ready-to-use mixture) at the right place at the right time (season and weather conditions: for instance, always favour a clear day with no wind to avoid undesired drift and run-off) with the right equipment (sprayer). All of this information is widely circulated and brought to consumers’ attention, both at the point of sale and on specialised websites which propose appropriate solutions combining various alternatives: chemical weed killers, manual weeding, changing the garden layout, etc.
Facts about the glyphosate renewal process
Glyphosate, like all the active substances authorised for use in pesticides in Europe, is subject to a strict regulatory process prior to being put on sale.
- The renewal of the authorisation for the active substance is conducted at the European level every 10 years on the basis of the exhaustive corpus of all available data and new scientific research. The current renewal process was led by Germany, which reaffirmed the safety of the substance in early 2015 in its report to the European Union. The German report is now subject to review by the European Food Safety Authority before a final decision by the European Commission.
- At the (EU) Member State level, including in France, a separate authorisation process governs the sale of formulated products (e.g. including the active substance and any additives) that are sold by various manufacturers under various brand names.

Der Wirkstoff Glyphosat kommt in etwa 180 verschiedenen Pflanzenschutzmitteln, die Landwirten und Gärtnern in Frankreich und vielen anderen Ländern zur Verfügung stehen, zum Einsatz. Roundup® ist dabei eine Marke unter vielen.
Glyphosat ist ein zugelassener Wirkstoff und es gibt bis dato keine neuen oder kürzlich bekanntgewordenen wissenschaftlichen Daten, die den zuständigen Zulassungsbehörden einen Grund geben würden, die Zulassung oder die Vertriebserlaubnis zu hinterfragen. Monsanto arbeitet gemeinsam mit weiteren Herstellern glyphosat-haltiger Produkte weiter mit den zuständigen Behörden zusammen, um eine Verlängerung der Zulassung auf EU-Ebene um weitere 10 Jahre zu erhalten. Glyphosat wurde zuletzt in 2003 für den Verkauf in der EU zugelassen. Unsere Produkte für den Heim- und Kleingartenbereich wurden speziell zur sicheren Verwendung durch Gärtner entwickelt. Bei bestimmungsgemäßer Verwendung birgt Roundup® keine Risiken für den Anwender. Monsanto und Roundup® stehen seit über 20 Jahren für gute fachliche Praxis. Das erstreckt sich von der Wahl des richtigen Produkts (Konzentrat oder anwendungsfertige Formulierung) über die Wahl des richtigen Zeitpunkts (Saison- und Wetterbedingungen; z.B. sollte die Anwendung bevorzugt an klaren, windstillen Tagen erfolgen, um ungewollte Abdrift zu vermeiden) bis hin zur Wahl des richtigen Equipments (Sprühgerät). All‘ diese Informationen werden den Käufern auf verschiedenen Wegen zur Verfügung gestellt: bei der Kaufberatung und auf entsprechenden Webseiten, die die verschiedenen Möglichkeiten und Alternativen zur Unkrautbekämpfung aufzeigen, wie z.B. Unkrautmittel, Jäten oder die Umgestaltung des Garten, etc..
Wie alle Wirkstoffe die zur Verwendung in Pflanzenschutzmitteln in Europa zugelassen sind, durchläuft Glyphosat einen strengen Zulassungsprozess, bevor es zum Verkauf zugelassen wird.
Die Erneuerung der Zulassung für Wirkstoffe wird alle 10 Jahre auf EU-Ebene durchgeführt und berücksichtigt sämtliche zur Verfügung stehenden Daten und neuen wissenschaftlichen Forschungsergebnisse. Für den derzeitig stattfindenden Wiederzulassungsprozess war Deutschland zuständig. Die zuständige Behörde hat die Sicherheit von Glyphosat in ihrem Bericht an die Europäische Union Anfang 2015 bestätigt. Der deutsche Bericht wird derzeit von der European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) bewertet, bevor die Europäische Kommission die finale Entscheidung fällt.

Monsanto è sorpresa dalle dichiarazioni sul Roundup da parte del Ministro dell’Ecologia, e la conseguente stigmatizzazione della nostra compagnia nei confronti dell’opinione pubblica francese.
Il glifosato è una sostanza attiva di uso generico, utilizzata in circa 180 preparazioni per erbicidi da giardino mirate ad un uso domestico da parte di giardinieri non professionisti. I prodotti Roundup sono una delle marche disponibili sul mercato, assieme a molte altre.
La situazione regolamentare del prodotto è assolutamente chiara, e ad oggi nessun dato scientifico ne mette in discussione l’autorizzazione o la vendita. Continuiamo a collaborare attivamente con le autorità competenti per garantire il rinnovo della registrazione decennale del glifosato, sostanza attiva presente in numerosi erbicidi, tra cui Roundup. Il glifosato è stato già riomologato dall’Unione Europea nel 2002.
Monsanto pone massima fiducia nella qualità dei prodotti che offriamo ai giardinieri, appositamente progettati per un uso domestico in massima sicurezza. Nei limiti delle modalità d’uso indicate sull’etichetta, il prodotto non presenta alcun rischio particolare per l’utilizzatore.
Inoltre, Monsanto e e Roundup promuovono l’impiego delle migliore pratiche presso giardinieri e utenti amatoriali da oltre 20 anni. Sia che si tratti di utilizzare il prodotto giusto (formule adattate: concentrati o pronti per l’uso) nel posto giusto al momento giusto (condizioni stagionali e metereologiche: ad esempio, privilegiarne l’impiego in una giornata senza vento e pioggia, per evitare proiezioni indesiderate ed eventuali deflussi verso punti d’acqua) con il giusto equipaggiamento (irroratrice). Queste informazioni sono ampiamente diffuse sia presso il grande pubblico, sia presso i punti vendia e sui siti specializzati che offrono soluzioni ragionate rispetto ad una serie di alternative: erbicidi, erbicidi manuali o organizzazione del giardino, e così via.
Il glifosato, come qualsiasi altra sostanza attiva, è oggetto di un processo di autorizzazione altamente regolamentato, che precede la messa sul mercato di tutti i nuovi prodotti. L’approvazione della sostanza attiva viene effettuata a livello europeo, ogni 10 anni, su una base esaustiva di dati e ricerche disponibili. L’attuale processo di approvazione è condotto dalla Germania in quanto paese relatore sulla sicurezza del prodotto a partire dal 2015, avendone ri-confermato la sicurezza d’impiego.
