Progress and funding of wheat biotechnology research are rapidly accelerated… not in Russia

Population growth and reduction of the world area planted with wheat has alerted governments of G20, which adopted The International Research Initiative For Wheat Improvement as a counter-effort. Now research on wheat biotechnology rapidly evolves throughout the world. Thus an international consortium has completed deciphering wheat genome in the fall of 2012. Varieties of biotech wheat resistant to pests and drought tolerant have been created and released for field trials. In 2009 major wheat exporting countries have signed the declaration to speed up commercialization of GM wheat. The U.S. government has allocated an additional $700 million annually for research on wheat. Russia stays aside from these innovations and invests no finance to support such work...
