Smart and easy rice crop management now at your fingertips!
The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) has developed an Android smartphone and tablet farm management tool called AgriDOC App. Intended for Filipino rice farmers, researchers, and extension workers, the App aims to improve the efficiency of farm management and rice crop production activities.
Moreover, with its colorful user interface, modern illustrations, and icons, AgriDOC App also aims to show to Filipino youth that rice farming can be exciting, modern, and attractive.
It is free and now available for download in Google Play Store (bit.ly/AgriDOCApp).
The app has the following features:
- Simple Record Keeping. Users can keep information about their farm activities and expenses then categorize them to major farming operations.
- Geo-Visualization. Users can view their farms through satellite images provided by Google Maps. They can also lot boundaries and label them for easy identification.
- Easy Task Scheduling. Users can plan their tasks and get reminders of their activities in the calendar view.
Aside from farm management assistance, the AgriDOC App also provides information and knowledge links to help users make informed decisions on the care of their rice crops. Through its Rice Crop Insights, the app informs the user about the priority needs and concerns of rice plants for every crop age and growth stage. It contains basic recommendations on rice crop management practices from the PalayCheck System, and comprehensive information about released rice varieties. It also provides links to rice knowledge banks and other useful websites.
The AgriDOC App does not need internet connection in order to function.
This app is a work on progress. User feedback is needed to further improve it.
The development of this app began in 2015 under the FutureRice Program. Under the supervision of Mr. Roger F. Barroga, FutureRice Program Leader, the project was implemented by Mr. Nehemiah Caballong, FutureRice Program ICT Specialist, and Mr. Paul Austian Alday, FutureRice’s programmer.
The AgriDOC App was funded by the Improving Technology Promotion and Delivery through Capability Enhancement of Next-Gen Rice Extension Professionals and Other Intermediaries (IPaD) and FutureRice Program.
