Delivers average yield increase of more than 10 bushels per acre on rootworm-traited corn
For 25 years, farmers across the Corn Belt have relied on Force® soil-applied insecticide to protect their corn from yield-robbing insects like corn rootworms, cutworms, wireworms and white grubs. Many farmers are accustomed to the proven performance of granular Force 3G; however, an increasing number are learning that liquid Force CS provides an identical level of control with the added convenience of a liquid.
Packaged in a 23-pound box, as opposed to standard 50-pound bags of granular insecticide, Force CS is easy to lift and load. The liquid insecticide also offers farmers a low use rate of as few as 8 ounces per acre. Both of these features help farmers save time and money.
Nebraska farmer, Nick Schmit, agrees. “There is not much time in the spring to plant and we want to make sure we are getting the biggest bang for our buck. Force CS insecticide helped us save time because we can load the insecticide once and plant all day.”
In addition to convenience, the bag-in-a-box design significantly reduces product exposure and allows for easier handling and storage. This was one of the main reasons why Iowa farmer, Dave Keffeler, invested in Force CS.
“We like Force CS insecticide because of the reduced product exposure. You don’t have to worry about any dust or spilling any product on yourself. It’s very seamless.”
Force CS insecticide can be applied in a T-band or in-furrow via two equipment options, the John Deere Central Insecticide System™ and the Force CS Raven Application System. The Central Insecticide System is available on multiple John Deere models. The Raven Application System can be installed after market on most planter makes and models, and offers the added capability of applying Force CS in-furrow with compatible liquid fertilizers. Having two equipment options to choose from means that most farmers can optimize insect control and application simplicity regardless of their equipment.
“We’re very fortunate to be working with two industry leaders to provide farmers with multiple options for applying Force CS insecticide,” says Geoff Lower, insecticides asset lead with Syngenta. “Each equipment option offers farmers accurate product application while reducing product handling and exposure.”
Applying Force CS insecticide at planting helps farmers protect one of the corn plant’s most vital components, the roots, when they are most vulnerable to corn rootworm feeding. Strong root systems are critical to maximizing the plant’s uptake of water and nutrients, keeping the plant healthy and ultimately maximizing yield potential. Fully developed root systems also make a big difference at harvest.
“With Force CS insecticide, I definitely see an increase in standability in my corn crop and the root mass is excellent. We had straight stalks and no problems at harvest time,” says Schmit.
Over the years, farmers have used Force insecticides to manage insects on their refuge acres in the absence of a Bt trait—a process that Force CS and the application equipment makes simpler by allowing farmers to control application from the planter’s cabin. But many farmers—even those who once thought that using a soil-applied insecticide on anything but refuge acres was a thing of the past—are discovering that applying Force insecticide to their entire corn crop, including traited acres, can add value.
“In hundreds of trials over the last five years we have discovered that a Force insecticide application on rootworm-traited corn hybrids leads to an average yield increase of more than 10 bushels per acre,” adds Lower. “We saw this same consistent yield response in 2012 trials where Force was applied to hybrids with trait stacks offering dual modes of action for corn rootworm control.”
