Managing eyespot in winter wheat
Eyespot is a common disease in intensive cereal rotations.
Severity can, however, vary significantly between individual fields and it is hard to predict which will require management intervention.
Traditionally, eyespot assessment in wheat was carried out in the spring to judge the need for chemical control.
This new risk assessment method includes an early, pre-sowing, assessment of agronomic risks, to enable fields at greater risk to be identified.
This allows an integrated management approach to be taken, for example by using eyespot-resistant varieties and delayed sowing.
