This week, Precision Planting announced the first iPad monitor application in Agriculture - FieldView. FieldView is the latest addition to the 20/20® system for planter management. Using an Apple iPad tablet, growers now have the ability to view the critical data from the 20/20 SeedSense monitor in an instantaneously created map.
The 20/20 SeedSense monitor captures the most thorough, accurate set of data for measuring planter performance - population, singulation, spacing, row unit ride and down force. However, the display only gives you a snapshot of that data. FieldView extends this information to give you an entire “field view” of the planter’s performance. Every pass, every row, every foot is mapped out instantly on a Google map image of the field.
In addition, FieldView allows growers to have instant access to their planting information on their iPad device. The FieldView App stores the planting data so it can be easily accessed in the office, scouting in the field, even in the combine when the yield and crop year are being assessed. With a 3G iPad growers will have access to Precision Planting’s online technical support system. It also simplifies software updates, data transfer and data backup. Plus, with access to the web and App Store, weather, markets and news is right at farmers fingertips.
Precision Planting has FieldView systems availablefor this spring. The system is compatible with any planter running a 20/20 SeedSense monitor. The main components of FieldView are the FieldView Module (FVM), an iPad2 Tablet and the FieldView App from the App Store. The FieldView App will be available in February and is free to download. It will also include free demos for farmers to test out and get familiar with the system before going to the field.
“The teaming of FieldView with the established 20/20 SeedSense planter monitor extends the value and use of a farmer’s investment in technology,” notes Doug Sauder, FieldView Project Manager for Precision Planting. “Not only does FieldView enhance grower’s decision making in the cab, but the mobility of the iPad puts 20/20 information and other powerful tools in grower’s hands year round.”
The 20/20 SeedSense planter monitor was released by Precision Planting in January 2007. SeedSense is the first planter monitor to evaluate planter performance for seed singulation and spacing in real time, monitor planter ride, and measure down force. In addition to SeedSense and FieldView, 20/20 owners can also add automatic down force control with 20/20 AirForce and automated hydraulic drive and row shut-off control with 20/20 RowFlow. All these features make up Precision Planting’s 20/20 system for planter management.
