New advice at hand on yellow spot, the damaging cereal disease
Australia
28 September 2011
The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has released a new fact sheet on the damaging cereal disease, yellow spot.
Yellow spot causes tan-coloured lesions on the leaves that are surrounded by yellow halos. Where these lesions occur near the leaf tip, the end of the leaf rapidly turns yellow (chlorosis) and dies back.
Even in years where the spring is not exceptionally wet, yellow spot can cause yield losses of up to 15 per cent. Yield losses may be higher when exceptional weather conditions occur in areas predominantly growing wheat-on-wheat.
