In August, a group of Australian melon growers traveled with the Seminis team to California to inspect some of the exciting new additions to our Melon lineup. On display at this high-tech research station were a range of Watermelon, Cantaloupe and Honeydew melons.

The trip provided valuable insight for local growers who got to see more than just how these fantastic crops grow in the field. Not only did growers visit trails across California, they also had the opportunity to visit our world class breeding station in Woodland, California.

There they were able to inspect the Gene Marker Assistance & Pathology Lab, patented seed chipper machines and meet our key melon breeders; Jerome Bernier, Jeff Mills, Alan Krivanek, Franco Asoro and Terry Berke.

On display were a wide range of Seminis melon varieties. Some of the stand out varieties were;

Watermelon

Cantaloupe/Rock melon

Honeydew

Pollinator

Our guests were extremely impressed by the products they saw and the professionalism of Seminis’ research. As a result there was great interest in our pollinator Wingman as well as our upcoming range expansions. Other growers were also thrilled with the high internal quality of the melons on display, as well as their superior eating quality.
