The Grains Australia Malting and Brewing Industry Barley Technical Committee (MBIBTC) met recently to carry out final assessment of the remaining varieties that were under evaluation in Stage Two of the malt accreditation program for 2023.
Grains Australia is pleased to announce the successful malting barley accreditation of the barley variety, Zena CL.
Zena CL Accreditation
Zena CL was submitted by InterGrain and was accredited as Malting Barley following evaluation by the MBIBTC, under the Grains Australia malting barley accreditation program.
Zena CL is an imidazolinone tolerant, medium/high fermentability barley variety and is suited to medium-high rainfall barley growing environments across Australia. Growers seeking Zena CL seed are encouraged to contact InterGrain. More information about the variety is also available on the InterGrain website.
As with all previous accreditations, the market will determine the success of this new variety. Grains Australia’s accreditation program is recognised as the required standard for the determination of all new Australian malting barley varieties.
Megan Sheehy, General Manager Classification for Grains Australia said, “We congratulate InterGrain and its team which has worked to bring this new variety to the marketplace.”
The Accredited Malting Varieties table has been updated to reflect this newly accredited variety.
Update for Laperouse Stage Two Evaluation
Insufficient grain was available to complete full evaluation in 2023 and Stage Two evaluation will be continued in 2024.
