Two spring barleys and an oilseed rape from RAGT Seeds have been promoted to the AHDB Candidate lists 2023.
This completes a hat trick of Candidate species for Europe’s leading plant breeding company, with winter wheat RGT Grouse also making the cut (https://www.ragtseeds.co.uk/post/rgt-grouse-the-next-step-in-bydv-resistant-wheat).
Spring barleys
RGT Eclipse delivers a treated yield that is 6% above RGT Planet and on a par statistically with Laureate. It also has a high untreated yield, suggesting robust in-field resistance to the major foliar diseases.

The variety is a potential brewing variety, featuring in the top three varieties in its set for hot water extract (HWE). It also has one of the highest specific weights.
It was the highest yielding variety in NL1 Harvest 2021. RGT Eclipse is a potential pan-European variety and is official trials in France, Germany, Czech Republic and Spain.
RGT Celeste is a potential brewing type. This is an RGT Planet type but with higher yield potential than that variety and slightly above RGT Eclipse.
Oilseed rape
RGT Kanzzas, a candidate for the East/West region, is the latest winter oilseed rape to emerge from RAGT’s pipeline. It is a high biomass variety with early spring vigour and medium early maturity.

It also features the best light leaf spot rating of all varieties in official AHDB oilseed rape trials, scoring an 8 in National Listing, and it also achieves a 6 for stem canker.
RGT Kanzzas is shorter and stiffer than Ambassador and LG Aviron and is also earlier to mature.
