Maize Day in Poland
October 7, 2020
Over a thousand people took part in the “Maize Day” event held in Szpietowo, northeastern Poland, on September 13th. In this region (which specialises in dairy production), the participants were able to visit a trial plot showcasing over 110 hybrids of feed maize. The day’s agenda included a presentation of the available feed maize hybrids by the seed companies, expert presentations on setting harvest dates and the role of maize in dairy cow feeding, and advice on silage preparation. This theoretical part of the event was followed by a practical demonstration of farming machinery, which is always highly appreciated by the farmers.
Organised by the Polish Association of Maize Producers (PZPK) for the past three years as part of a promotion initiative focused on food maize, a food tasting was also offered to the public, allowing it to discover a great variety of maize-based food products.
