National Sunflower Association of Canada (CNSA) is forecasting Canadian sunflower crops in 2012 to double.
Many areas, most notably in Manitoba, received above-average amounts of snow followed by unprecedented levels of rain from April through June making for extremely wet planting conditions.
Slightly less than 34,000 acres were planted in 2011.
CNSA is predicting acres to rebound to roughly 70-80,000 in 2012.
Confection seeds account for roughly 75 percent of Canada's sunflower production.
