Sr. Soy Commercial Production & Resource Planning Manag

Location: Remote role that can be based out of Ilinois or Iowa, USA

Job ID:  126018

We are looking for a Sr Soy Commercial Production & Resource Planning Manager to join our Agricultural Solutions team. This is a remote role that can be based out of Ilinois or Iowa.

Come create chemistry with us!

BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division connects innovation, customers, partners and agricultural experts and integrates sustainability criteria into  all business decisions. We help farmers deliver the best possible  outcomes, working to achieve the balance between economic, environmental, and social value creation for sustainable and efficient  agriculture.

As a Sr Soy Commercial Production & Resource Planning Manager, you will hold a dual role with primary responsibilities as the Commercial Production Manager, leading all soybean seed production activities for BASF’s Xitavo® Soybean seeds business in the upper Midwest, overseeing approximately 12 to 15 third-party commercial soybean seed production plants. Additionally, as the Supply Resource Planning Manager, you will assist the Head of Soy Seeds Supply with production resource planning activities, including developing the annual business plan, updating capacity and headcount plans, and forecasting service costs impacting cost of goods sold (COGS). This role involves supervising commercial production agronomists, managing interns, and leading seasonal field stewardship inspectors for new trait launches. You will collaborate with colleagues in commercial production, foundation seeds, quality, planning, logistics, and sales operations to ensure a reliable supply of high-quality soybean seed, while also contributing to short and long-term supply planning strategies, including legal agreements and capacity planning.

As a Sr. Soy Commercial Production & Resource Planning Manager, you create chemistry by...

  • Managing a network of 12–15 third-party soybean seed production multipliers in the Upper Midwest, overseeing $25M–$30M in annual expenditures and ensuring compliance with operational, quality, and stewardship standards.
  • Supervising regional agronomists, field inspectors, and seasonal staff to support trait launches and ensure adherence to stewardship and regulatory protocols.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams—including R&D, Business Operations, Sales, and Legal—to develop and execute crop strategies, legal agreements, and long-term supply plans.
  • Leading quality assurance processes, including seed lot release decisions, CAPA implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives across assigned production sites.
  • Developing annual crop and capacity plans, headcount forecasts, and tolling network strategies to support reliable supply and future growth.
  • Contributing to financial and business planning processes, including OPEX, CAPEX, COGS forecasting, and sustainability initiatives, while supporting the Head of Soy Seeds Supply.

If you...

  • Possess a BA/BS in agronomy, seed science, plant science, agricultural economics, supply chain, or a related field; MS or MBA preferred, with commodity trading experience considered a plus.
  • Bring 8 years of experience in seed production, seed logistics, seed quality, or related areas, with a preference for soybean seed expertise.
  • Demonstrate 4 years of leadership experience managing teams and overseeing complex data analytics subject to financial audit scrutiny.
  • Exhibit strong planning and forecasting capabilities, with a comprehensive understanding of financial impacts on COGS, inventory, OPEX, and CAPEX.
  • Showcase advanced data analytics proficiency, including extracting and interpreting data from multiple systems and using statistical tools like Minitab.
  • Maintain strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence third-party partners on logistics and scheduling priorities without direct authority.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge, understanding, and compliance to EHS Safety & Sustainability programs.
  • Possess experience with managing customer complaints; leading non-conformance investigations, developing CAPA’s, and implementing process improvements.
