Sweet Corn Breeder

Location: United States, with a preferred location in the southern states

Progressive Genetics LLC is a privately owned business unit specializing in primarily tropical, semi-tropical, and temperate commercial sweet corn seeds. From world to local farmer’s markets we work with our customers to deliver innovative state of the art products of the highest quality vegetable seeds.

Purpose of the Position

As part of the company team, the position entails playing a key role in driving innovation and the creation of new sweet corn products for primarily world temperate markets Reporting to the senior breeder, this role relies on one’s ability to understand program specific aspects relating to germplasm characteristics, market requirements, and overall operational breeding procedures. The position will allow one to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the sweet corn breeding programs while advancing your career.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist with breeding projects as assigned with emphasis on world temperate sweet corn markets. This would involve designated travel and day to day responsibilities.
  2. Strategically plant trials with key partners in the US and othe worldr specific geographies as determined.
  3. Evaluate trials and discuss market opportunities with designated customers and partners.
  4. Develop seed production partners in the US and international sites as required.
  5. Participate in seed productions forecasting and planning as related to commercial and research requirements.
  6. Assist with sales and product development strategies for key customers and designated distribution partners.
  7. Travel to key trial sites along with assigned production and customer geographies.
  8. Establish and maintain social media accounts to help in sales and promotional activities.
  9. Participate in all breeding, product development and sales strategies and priorities.

Job requirements

Education:

  • Master’s or PhD in Plant Breeding and Genetics.

Experience:

  • Numerous years of experience in breeding commercial sweet corn products
  • A proven track record in developing commercial sweet corn varieties
  • Hands-on experience in practical plant breeding strategies and team interaction.

Location

The position can be located anywhere in the US, with a preferred location in the southern states. Our nurseries are located in Florida, Colombia, Chile, and soon to be Thailand.
