JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Academic Administrator/Director of Education, and in collaboration with a program representative/Education Specialist for the UC Davis Plant Breeding Academy, the Program Representative will manage short educational courses at the Seed Biotechnology Center. Our courses are tailored to meet the needs of the seed industry, our primary customers.
Some key offerings include, but not limited to:
- Seed Business 101 Horticulture: A week-long course designed for newcomers to the industry, offered annually on the UC Davis campus.
- Seed Production: A 3.5-day course covering the fundamentals of seed production for various crops, primarily vegetables and field crops.
- Online E-Series: Two half-day courses addressing critical elements of plant breeding, alongside many other in-person courses, such as Leadership for Plant Breeders and Scientists and Seed Biology.
The Program Representative will lead the planning and organization of these courses and related events, such as the monthly Seed Central networking event. Additionally, they will contribute to the operation of SBC programs, including the annual report, event hosting (approximately once every few years), and assist the Director of Education with marketing and outreach initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with effective communication abilities to engage with industry personnel, researchers, program representatives, department staff, interest group representatives, managers, and administrators.
- Proficiency in using and maintaining databases, spreadsheets, and word processing programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Photoshop. Experience with electronic communications, including social media.
Preferred:
- Event planning experience.
- Skills to maintain web pages and online registration forms.
- Experience producing high-quality work using Adobe products (Acrobat and Photoshop).
- Excellent writing and editing skills.

Our educational short courses are designed for the seed industry, and as a Program Representative, you will play a vital role in their implementation, interacting with students, instructors, and a variety of stakeholders.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires travel by car to meeting sites, including occasional overnight stays within California and, rarely, air travel for international events. A valid California driver’s license is required, and the ability to lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds is necessary. The role may require occasional evening and weekend work, but we offer a flexible schedule to accommodate operational needs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Funding for this position is supported solely by course revenues, and the position will remain open as long as the programs are successful. The SBC has been running these programs for over 15 years. The work schedule is hybrid and flexible, allowing for partial remote work while being based in Davis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Background Check: This critical position is subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation, including criminal history and identity checks.
COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Salary Range: $19.54/hr - $39.27/hr; full benefits included.
Appointment Type: Contract; full-time (minimum 62.5%) for a 1-year renewable contract.
