Inbred Corn Breeder

Location: Rilland, Netherlands or Colmar, France or Greven or Pocking, Germany

Full Time

Main Goal
As an Inbred Corn Breeder, you will lead a breeding program. This international position will be based in Rilland in the Netherlands or in Colmar in France, Greven in Germany, or Pocking in Germany depending on your preferred location. You will work closely with the research and support functions to develop inbred lines with agronomic traits, disease resistance, and yield potential adapted to your dedicated market. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop your career working in a multi-disciplinary international environment, helping shape breeding strategies and drive its local execution.

Job description
Strategy / business orientation:
In conjunction with the Head of Breeding program:

  • Develop breeding direction, ideas and germplasm strategies to bring new lines and hybrids on the market.
  • Define the short-, medium- and long-term objectives of the breeding project and the target portfolio with development.
  • Develop a good understanding of business challenges through interactions with all relevant stakeholders, including competitors, government officials and/or public institute.
  • Lead local collaborations and propose exchanges with public and private partners in line with company standard and protocols.
  • Guarantee the FTO of the germplasm.

Operations:

  • Implement the breeding strategy and manage the breeding project.
  • Leverage internal as well as external R&D capabilities to optimize the breeding project using new and efficient technical innovations.
  • Manage and take in charge assessment of lines, visit and score trials and nurseries.
  • Analyze all data with appropriate tools and take breeding decisions.

People Management:

  • Manage breeding teams dedicated to the breeding project.
  • Ensure that all team members follow the company standards (health, safety and environment and other).
  • Promote innovation and maintain high technical and scientific level of his / her team.
  • Develop close relationship with Maize breeders operating in other programs or other territories as well as all Limagrain Field Seed Research organization.


Skills: what we expect of you

  • PhD or MASTER in Plant Breeding and Genetics, or a closely related field, is required.
  • Previous experience in corn breeding or a similar field would be appreciated.
  • In-depth knowledge of corn breeding techniques and molecular genetics tools.
  • Ability to use software for data analyses, management, presentation, and reporting; general competence in statistics and data management is required.
  • Knowledge of the target production region associated biotic and abiotic stresses, and relevant germplasm base would be appreciated.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills are needed.
  • Leadership skills and experience in managing people and projects.

Languages:

  • English (4 - Fluent)
  • German (3 - Professional)
  • Dutch (for The Netherlands)

Recruitment process
The recruitment process takes place in several stages:
