Associate Scientist, Plant Pathologist

Job Summary
The incumbent will work closely with the Deputy Group Research Manager - Pathology in the building the pathology support function in EW Guatemala including development of the plant pathology laboratory and capacity development for routine plant disease diagnosis, disease survey and mapping, protocol development for controlled screening programs, supervision and training of support staff and implementation of training/extension support programs.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement plant pathology projects in close coordination with the Deputy Group Research Manager-Pathology.
- Ensure that the laboratory and other assigned screenhouse or facilities are organized and well maintained with proper inventory management of laboratory supplies and other reagents.
- Undertake plant disease survey or disease mapping to better understand the pest and disease constraints in the target market of Central America
- Prepare and submit monthly progress reports on plant pathology activities to the Deputy Group Research Manager-Pathology
- Train and supervise support plant pathology staff, if applicable.
- Maintain a high level of current awareness of plant pathology and related fields.
- Initiate contact with other researchers within and outside the EW Group for networking.
The ideal candidate
- Preferably a MSc degree holder in Plant Pathology or related discipline with extensive experience in plant pathology or related disciplines
- Has research management capability; experience is desirable but not required
- Possesses strong planning , organizing and execution skills
- Has good oral and written English communication skills
- Attentive to details
