We currently have an open position as Sunflower Breeder located in Szeged, Hungary. The successful candidate will have the responsibility to lead the Dow AgroSciences sunflower breeding program for Central and Eastern Europe.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the breeding program (creation of new competitive germplasm) Implement state of the art technology for this program
• Define a trial network across the targeted geography
• Carry out trial assessments and summarize data for advancement decisions
• Responsible for advancement of hybrids to the different discovery gates up to official trials stage
• Create productive inbreds
• Provide leadership to the breeding team
• Visit winter nursery to control quality and to make advancement selections
• Promote a safe work environment.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in breeding (PhD in plant breeding or Master’s degree with 3 to 5 years experience.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and lead field station biologists (full time and part time).
• Practical experience in field selection for trial purposes
• Good communication in English and any other European language
• Advanced statistical knowledge
• Understanding of classical and molecular breeding techniques
• Good knowledge of the targeted geography
