Manager Quality Control Tolling

The primary responsibilities of this role, Manager Quality Control Tolling Logistics, are to:
- Ensure Bayer’s Quality Management & Stewardship standards for soybean seed production are effectively communicated and in compliance by our network of 23 commercial seed tollers, and 4 foundation seed plants;
- Manage tracking of samples to third party laboratories for testing;
- Ensure test results are reviewed in a timely manner through communication with third party laboratories and internal personnel;
- Review test data to ensure it is completed, accurate, and within quality standards for the crop;
- Ensure test data is uploaded to the Bayer system and batch decisions are communicated internally or to third party;
- Complete training for assigned tasks and understand safety risks prior to performing tasks;
- Revise documents to ensure compliance with Bayer, local, and government requirements and practices;
- Work closely with the NA Soybean QM Manager, the NA Regional QM & Stewardship Managers to continually improve our QM & Stewardship policies & procedures;
- Responsible for 3rd party lab contract administration, including negotiating for seed testing services & fees and maintaining overall responsibility for budgeting and authorizes & processes payment of all seed testing activities (currently ~$200k spend item);
- Direct 3rd party and internal lab activities to ensure appropriate quality tests are being performed for various seed genetics, traits, etc.;
- Work closely with Tolling Managers and NA Soybean QM Manager to lead investigation of incidents of non-conforming seed and customer complaints, as they relate to seed quality, documents findings, and leads implementation of corrective and preventative actions to mitigate reoccurrence;
- Provide on-site training to tolling sites and lab partners including development of training materials as it relates to quality control, complaint investigations, etc.;
- Maintain thorough documentation of all seed testing results to meet state and regulatory approvals;
- Be a “super user” of the SAP-QM and LIMS systems to capture all testing data, perform analysis, and use data to drive decisions to help improve seed production operations;
- Review and interpret seed quality testing results and approve and release seed lots for shipment;
- Manage the variance approval process;
- Ensure accurate labeling of bags & tags with trait, seed treatments, and seed quality analysis information to meet federal and state seed law requirements;
- Work with local state boards and local authorities to resolve seed quality related issues;
- Supervise seasonal employees and contractors who support seed quality activities;
- Attend and participate in monthly safety training, tool box meetings, and ensure contract employees follow all safety policies;
- Lead one or more safety programs for the site;
- Assist as needed in soybean operations or other assignments as directed by management;
- Maintain alignment between commercial operations and production planning for direct materials;
- Improve visibility of production plans, on-time delivery of direct materials, fluid material flow between suppliers/sites, and on-time startup for annual production campaigns;
- Lead soybean seed demand/production planners and Tolling Managers to support supply of direct materials for finished goods production at our network of 23+ contract production tolling sites(bags, tags, pallets, seed treatments, etc.);
- Maintain up to 6 months of rolling “firm-planned” production plan in SAP–APO;
- Monitor, analyze and address demand and purchasing alerts to identify “high risk” situations with regards to independent demands, as well as potential stock outs and/or late deliveries of dependent materials;
- Lead the label graphics group to ensure availability and usage of current approved artwork for tolled products;
- Facilitate master data maintenance, including; MRP changes, procurement strategies, materials extensions, and identifying BOM and recipe issues as it relates to direct materials;
- Maintain multiple STO’s (Stock transport Orders) to load manufacturing sites, and in some circumstances moving items from warehouse to warehouse or site to site, to ensure on-time start-ups and continuous supply; (includes raw bushels, finished lots, direct materials, EPT/APT seed for agronomic services, etc.);
- Expedite materials to achieve manufacturing goals and opportunities through collaboration with warehousing, transportation, procurement, and other manufacturing sites;
- Assist inventory goals by capturing opportunities for rework, consumption of slow-moving raw materials, and timely disposal of obsolete materials;
- Participate in weekly Production Planning meetings to provide updates on production campaigns and assisting BCS production sites with production issues;
- Facilitate expediting of manufacturing activities and shipments.

More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- B.A./B.S. in the field of seed science, plant science, agricultural economics, supply chain, or a related discipline;
- Five years of experience in quality management or quality assurance/control, seed production, seed logistics, or agribusiness; or 8-10 years applicable business experience production/research/logistics;
- Ability to identify and build strong business relationships with both internal and external partners;
- Be self-motivated;
- Demonstrate supervisory skills to lead and manage team of direct and indirect employees who seasonally support seed quality and direct materials activities;
- Effectively communicate to tollers and their staffs to provide direction on seed quality and stewardship standards;
- Ability to make recommendations to Parent Seeds Production Mgr & Tolling Mgrs when problems arise;
- Highly skilled in documentation and managing details especially as it relates to reporting requirements for stewardship and QMS, etc.;
- Ability to extract data from SAP QM, SAP- APO, LIMs, etc. to develop analysis for planning, inventory management, and decision making, etc.;
- Report preparation and communications;
- Ability to network effectively with 3rd party contractors and government agencies;
- Lead Business improvement project teams and operational teams;
- Manage complexity and multitask during In-season periods when processing, packaging, and shipping schedules are very critical;
- Strategic, logical and detail oriented;E
- ffective communicator both verbal and written;
- Strong mathematical and numeric skills;
- Flexible and able to reduce complexity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two plus years’ experience in ISO 9001, Business Excellence and/or Operational Excellence Experience;
- Agriculture or Seeds industry experience;
- Seed quality experience;
- SAP user experience;
- Auditing experience.
