Postdoctoral Fellow in Genome Assembly and Annotation
Location: Davis, California, USA Position Description:
A postdoctoral position is available at the UC Davis Seed Biotechnology Center (sbc.ucdavis.edu) with Dr. Allen Van Deynze to develop genome assemblies in key crops important to California using the latest technologies such as 10X Genomics, Pacific Biosciences, etc. The postdoctoral position will actively participate in a project, aiming at refining and applying bioinformatics tools to efficiently assemble, annotate complex plant genomes. It also includes mining genetic variants, genetic mapping and anchoring of genomes. The postdoc will be expected to work closely with team leaders and collaborators and to write and publish manuscripts on the topic.
The position is based at UC Davis and involves working with the most relevant UCD laboratories and platforms.
Expected Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate must be a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. degree in Plant Sciences, Plant Biology and/or bioinformatics. The candidate will combine these fields in defining and describing de novo plant genomes. Experience in bioinformatics using Perl, Phython is required with experience in R desirable. The candidate must be able to design, manage and work with large datasets and be well-versed in statistical methods for data analysis.
The candidate must be an effective written and oral communicator and possess creative problem solving skills with the ability to work both independently and in strong interaction with UC Davis research teams.
