Molecular Geneticist

Location: Woodland, California, USA

Main Purpose:

The scientist is responsible for trait discovery, development and advancement activities for canola and other Nuseed’s core crops. The scientist will report directly to the Molecular Biology Leader and will work closely with plant breeders, trait advancement managers, and technical support staff.

Principal Tasks & Accountabilities:

  • Design, manage and execute experiments
  • Map traits of interest •Develop, validate and employ molecular assays to assist breeding
  • Keep accurate records •Manage and mentor junior lab personnel •Instrument troubleshooting
  • Develop and capture intellectual property
  • Comply with company policies

Experience & Qualifications:

  • A PhD or MS degree in genetics, plant breeding, or related fields
  • A minimum of eight years of hands on experience in molecular marker development and marker-assisted breeding. Experience in canola is a plus
  • Extensive experience in high-throughput genotyping and next generation sequencing
  • Ability to design and execute experiments independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent leadership, multi-task project management, and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Self-motivated with good working ethic and positive attitude
