SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Nominated by the President & CEO. Heads the Research & Development Department and is responsible for research strategy function of the Organization.
Member of the AgReliant Genetics Leadership Team.
Participates in cross functional operating and strategic decisions of the Company.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively involved in the development and execution of the AgReliant Genetics Mission, Vision and Values, as well as our go to market strategy and implementation plans.
- Participates in AgReliant Genetics Board Meetings as the VP of Research and coordinates with Limagrain and KWS Biotechnology and Breeding strategies and efforts to optimize productivity of Research investment.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the Research Concept.
- Secure the availability of a competitive product portfolio, based on market demands for the corn division in the assigned markets.
- Directs activities of Corn Research, Product Development, Molecular Marker Lab, Puerto Rico Operations, GMO Conversion and Biotechnology Strategy.
- Communications with Technology Providers, universities and public research.
- Develop, implement and maintain an effective and efficient organization of the Corn R&D group including its interactions with other R&D -groups within the Limagrain and KWS-Group (to leverage synergies) and with non-R&D groups of the Corn Division.
- Leadership and development of research team. Recruitment, management and development of personnel for (key) positions within the relevant Corn breeding and research department.
- Directs and reviews the Puerto Rico Research Station and counter season research activities.
- Responsible for maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism.
- Responsible for projecting a positive image of AgReliant Genetics.
- Coordinates with company attorney on legal agreements.
- Other duties as assigned. Duties and responsibilities may be revised as needed by the President/CEO either verbally and/or in writing.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Ph.D., in corn breeding or related field + 10 years experience.
- Demonstrated management/leadership experience; demonstrated ability to create a clear vision and strategy as well as provide the leadership for a corn research program; demonstrated ability to lead a team of Breeders and Scientist to deliver on value creating product enhancements.
- Excellent planning and organization skills; manage multiple projects completely and accurately; attention to detail; problem analysis and problem resolution skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills required; working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred) and common PC-based software.
- Strong interest and aptitude for the overall seed industry and marketplace, with a strong interest in cross function engagement to both communicate and gain input and alignment on research strategies as well as contribute to the design of all other functional strategies and implementation plans as a contributing member of the overall business leadership team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work required hours
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Must have valid driver’s license and meet MVR guidelines
- Overnight travel required.
