Senior Product Specialist, Lettuce
Location: Salinas, California, USA POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATION:

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To trial, evaluate and report on new experimental varieties in all stages before the commercial release, in close cooperation with breeding and sales teams, and to support
Summary of responsibilities:
- Develop trial plans and coordinate, evaluate and report results of research and commercial variety trials.
- Identify new promising experimental varieties from local screening and global breeding and actively contribute to the new variety decision process
- Support the introduction of new Enza varieties with technical support and clear positioning towards the Enza Sales team and to customers and prospects.
- Maintain an optimum trial material seed supply.
Brief description of responsibilities and duties:
- Develop trial plans and coordinate, evaluate and report results of research and commercial variety trials.
- Develop, document and communicate R&D screening trials (R2 and/or R1,R2) and commercial (EX/CI) trial plans and secure high quality execution of these trials in close consultation with all parties involved (Breeders, Trial Specialists and Sales team representatives) allowing trials for specific market segments, including commercial checks.
- Evaluate R&D and commercial variety trials and record/report conclusions through accurate and timely trial reports breeding and sales.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers , sales representatives, as well as national and/or international Enza colleagues.
- Identify new promising experimental varieties from local screening and global breeding programs and actively contribute to the new variety decision process.
- Makes recommendations, from a market and customer perspective, in connection with the Breeder and the Sales teams, on which R2 screening material is elevated to an experimental/commercial introduction status (EX/CI).
- Be an active contributor to the relevant (product advancement) team(s), through the gathering of professionally compiled trial and market data and other relevant information in the conventional and organic seed market – thus ensuring a smooth and fast decision making process on new commercial introductions.
- Keep all parties in the Enza organization well informed of relevant competitive varieties in the market.
- Regular written progress reporting regarding relevant product and market developments.
- Support the introduction of new Enza varieties with technical support and clear positioning towards the Enza Sales team and to customers and prospects.
- Responsible for positioning (slotting) and technical variety descriptions of new varieties to the sales team.
- Contribute to the development of marketing/promotional literature by writing detailed, technical variety descriptions .
- Provide technical support to growers e.g. with regard to cultivation methods.
- Organizing and/or participating in field days and related events.
- Maintain an optimum trial material seed supply.
- Monitor seed supply and quality of all seed being used for trials.
- Ensure discontinued and older seed lots are discarded or replaced.
- Prepare and dispatch sample seeds.
JOB PROFILE:
Education / knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture and agriculture or seed industry experience.
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of field and/or vegetable seed crops and cultivation techniques.
- Excellent and clear communications skills (verbal and written) in the local language as well as proficient in English.
- Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) with advanced skills specifically in Excel.

- Frequent travel; nationally as well as internationally.
- Works under varying climate conditions and is exposed to outside working conditions.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
