Research Technician

Location: Salinas, California, USA

Responsibilities include working under the direction of Marker Development Scientists to carry out lab work related to developing new breeder-support markers and refining select lab protocols. This would include running DNA marker tests and preparing samples for sequencing. Provides support for routine marker-assisted selection as needed during busy periods (including off-site collection of tissue samples) and some technical developmental support for the Quality Assurance lab as well, as requested. May work independently on some projects as directed.

BS degree in Genetics, Biology, Chemistry, Plant Science or related field, plus at least one year of closely related DNA marker laboratory work experience. Experience with SNP molecular marker tests and understanding of plant genetics required. Must have excellent attention to detail, manual dexterity, visual acuity, and mathematical aptitude. Must have basic understanding of laboratory equipment operation and chemistry principles and techniques.
