Job summary

Responsible for supporting cucurbit breeding programs aimed at development of new hybrids for VoloAgri’s global markets. Assistant Cucurbit Breeder will be reporting to the Global R&D Director-CC for research and Director R&D Mexico for administrative matters. Interacting with breeding teams at research and trial stations in Mexico. 

Responsibilities

• Management and support to all components of cucurbit breeding programs at Culiacan station including sowing, transplanting, pollination, data recording, harvesting-processing-shipping of seed. Development of elite inbred lines and hybrids.
• Identify new market opportunities and update cucurbit breeders.
• Implement the R&D strategy at research station.
• Establish good rapport with sales and product development teams.
• Supervise Ag Engineers, train and manage seasonal field helpers.
• Travel domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• MS in Agriculture with with 3+ years of experience or BS with 5-6 years of experience in cucurbit breeding.
• Knowledge of marker technology, phytopathology, plant physiology, crop management.
• Ability to speak English
• Good written and verbal communication skills,
• Works well within a team environment.
• Ability to work in range of working conditions
• Command of MS office and statistical softwares.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
