The Department of Horticulture and Crop Science in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Science at The Ohio State University’s Wooster campus is seeking applications for a faculty appointment in Plant Domestication/Germplasm Improvement of outcrossing species. We are seeking candidates with demonstrated interest in developing and managing an interdisciplinary, extramurally funded, and internationally-recognized integrated research program applying population genetics, statistical genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics to the development and improvement of crops for sustainable biomaterials, especially biopolymers. The position has research, teaching, and service responsibilities. The candidate will teach a course in their area of expertise, which may include principles of population genetics, methods associated with analyses of genome-wide data, genetic improvement of outcrossing species, and plant domestication. Participation as guest lecturer in team-taught courses is expected, in addition to facilitating graduate-level journal-club, seminars, and methods classes as needed.
This will be a full time, 9 month, tenure-track appointment to begin fall semester 2015. The salary and teaching load are competitive with other major research institutions.
The position is open at the Assistant Professor level, although we prefer candidates with some experience and a record of scholarly research. This position is partially funded by Ohio State’s Discovery Themes Initiative, a significant faculty hiring investment in key thematic areas in which the university can build on its culture of academic collaboration to make a global impact. The successful candidate will be joining a highly collaborative interdisciplinary community of scholars in the Sustainable and Resilient Economy (S&RE) program, which takes a holistic approach to understanding how production and consumption systems are linked to ecological systems, and how society can achieve more sustainable and resilient development. This program aims to stimulate innovations that enhance the value and reduce the adverse impacts of material flows through the economy and society, and will provide a rigorous evaluation of the costs, benefits, and potential hidden consequences of changes in technology, policy, and the natural environment.
