Molecular Biologist
Location: Woodland, California, USA Purpose:
The plant molecular biologist will assist senior scientists in trait discovery, development and advancement activities for Nuseed’s core crops of sunflower, sorghum, and canola. He or she will work closely with plant breeders, trait advancement managers, and technical support staff.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist senior scientists to develop, validate, optimize and employ molecular assays to support breeding through marker-assisted selection
- Manage and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret experimental data, and draw conclusions in a timely manner
- Coordinate field-lab activities
- Manage and mentor technicians to safely and efficiently conduct experiments and instrument troubleshooting
- Keep accurate records
- Comply with company policies
Required Education/Experience:
- A MS or BS degree in genetics, plant genetics and breeding, plant biology or related fields
- A minimum of two years of hands on experience in molecular marker development, QTL mapping, and marker-assisted breeding. Experience in next generation sequencing and high throughput genotyping would be a plus
- Ability to conduct experiments independently and as part of a team
- Excellent leadership, multi-task project management, and communication (written and verbal) skills
- Self-motivated with good working ethic and positive attitude
- Team player – ability to work with and assist others to ensure projects are completed in required timelines
