Today, about 800 employees are working to optimize crops for more efficient agriculture, renewable raw materials and healthier nutrition. We are currently looking for a Field Testing Supervisor at our Ames, IA location.
The Field Testing Supervisor is a member of the Development team within the BASF Plant Science organization, and will independently manage multi-location, small acreage, high throughput regulated and non-regulated field trial programs across different crop groups and project targets.
The Field Testing Supervisor is responsible for:
- Managing both regulated and non-regulated field trials in full regulatory compliance, including receipt and origination of material in accordance with BASF Plant Science guidelines.
- Managing 1-5 BASF Plant Science employees, hire and supervise required temporary workers and develop budgets for development activities of own group.
- Serving as local contact to state and federal regulatory agencies regarding compliance in growing transgenic crops, and managing regulated seed shipments.
- Implementing and maintaining Stewardship and Responsible Care programs that protect BASF finances, image, employee and environmental safety and product integrity.
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Required:
- PhD in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Crop Science, Genetics, Crop Protection or Related Field + 3 years relevant experience - OR - MS (similar background) + 5 years relevant experience - OR - BS (similar background) + 8 years relevant experience - OR - AA Degree (similar background) + 10 years relevant experience.
- At least 3 years field trial experience conducting agronomic, hybrid or variety, herbicide, insecticide or similar trial types.
- Demonstrated experience with small plot field trial equipment including tractors, planters, sprayers, combines, handheld data collection devices, label printers/software, seed counters, moisture meters, threshers, and other instruments unique to the industry.
- Ability and willingness to work in adverse environmental conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and sunshine.
- Demonstrated aptitude with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, and Lotus Notes (or MS Outlook) in a network environment.
Desired:
- Experience working with USDA-regulated organisms in a field testing environment.
- Experience managing a multi-location field testing network.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience using a field testing database.
- Current Class A CDL, or ability and willingness to obtain one within 6 months of hire date.
- Restricted Use Pesticide Applicators license upon hire or acquired within 6 months of hire date.
