We are the world's leading chemical company because we offer intelligent solutions for our customers and for a sustainable future. We link and develop people with diverse talents all over the world. For you, this means a variety of ways to advance. Not only your performance but also your personality matter to us. At BASF, careers develop from opportunities.

BASF - the Chemical Company - consolidated its plant biotechnology activities in BASF Plant Science in 1998. Today, about 800 employees are working to optimize crops for more efficient agriculture, renewable raw materials and healthier nutrition. At our headquarters in the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, we are seeking a Scientist to join the Systems Biology group within the Global Crop Trait Knowledge Function.

We are seeking a plant computational geneticist / systems biologist that applies statistical and computational skills toward the development and implementation of novel algorithms to unravel traits of interest. The candidate will draw from novel genotypic, phenotypic, and expression profiling including transcript, protein, and metabolite data to dissect complex traits for the purposes of trait gene discovery. The candidate will work closely with other systems biologists, bioinformaticians and biologists to conceive, implement, and execute innovative and integrated data analysis methods.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative statistical/computational methods for the analysis and modeling of complex biological data. Evaluate and implement publicly available algorithms and tools.
  • Design, analyze and interpret the results from genetic and systems biology experiments.
  • Write research reports.
  • Participate in candidate gene selection decisions and follow up.
  • Actively participate and communicate in multidisciplinary scientific teams.
