At our headquarters in the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, we are seeking a Scientist to join the Systems Biology group within the Global Crop Trait Knowledge Function.
We are seeking a plant computational geneticist / systems biologist that applies statistical and computational skills toward the development and implementation of novel algorithms to unravel traits of interest. The candidate will draw from novel genotypic, phenotypic, and expression profiling including transcript, protein, and metabolite data to dissect complex traits for the purposes of trait gene discovery. The candidate will work closely with other systems biologists, bioinformaticians and biologists to conceive, implement, and execute innovative and integrated data analysis methods.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop innovative statistical/computational methods for the analysis and modeling of complex biological data. Evaluate and implement publicly available algorithms and tools.
- Design, analyze and interpret the results from genetic and systems biology experiments.
- Write research reports.
- Participate in candidate gene selection decisions and follow up.
- Actively participate and communicate in multidisciplinary scientific teams.

REQUIREMENTS: - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Required:
- PhD or MS degree in Computational Genetics, Systems Biology, Biological, Statistical or Related Field.
- Minimum of 2 years of industry or academic experience with a PhD - OR - 6 to 8 years of industry experience with an MS in Computational Genetics, Systems Biology, Biological, Statistical or Related Field.
- Strong background in computational analysis of biological datasets and/or quantitative genetics.
- Significant experience in scientific programming/scripting in R, ASReml, SAS, C, Perl, or other relevant languages.
- Ability to work in UNIX computing environment.
- Proficiency in written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment across multiple disciplines and global team settings.
Desired:
- Familiarity with corn, soybean or rice.
- Proficiency in advanced statistical methods applied to integrated analysis of biological datasets (e.g. association mapping, mixed model approaches, machine learning algorithms, data integration, meta-data analysis, network analysis, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams.
- Demonstrated examples of innovative thinking and implementation
